What Size Alternator
So I'm going to be running a dual electric fan setup with Vintage Air A/C. I also have power windows. Everything else is pretty much standard using an 18 circuit Painless Wiring Kit. Anyone have a ballpark on alternator size? I currently have a 66 AMP Delco-Remy. I'm guessing that will be too small?

Re: What Size Alternator
I think your choice of stereo and how much you play it will have more impact on current drain. I'm pretty sure 66 is more than what originally came in these trucks. Windows won't be continuous draw so all you could have is 3 fans (oops, unless you're driving at night with the AC blasting). I doubt you will pull more than 66 amps with that (probably 10-15 amps each). Stereo????? 1000w is about 83 amps (P=I x E or I = P/E or 1000/12=83.3333)
Then you'll be hurting. Last edited by 71tahoe; 09-30-2009 at 05:02 PM. Reason: forgot about headlights. |

Can some people chime in on what electrical stuff they have going and what size their alt is? And if they feel it is sufficient. The more electrical wizardry, the better! I haven't decided on a stereo system yet, but it likely won't be anything beyond typical 6x9s and maybe a sub with small amp. But I have thought about prewiring for power seats and things like that. Not continuous draw, but could run into problems, I imagine if I use too many at the same time with too small of an alternator.
