VIN tag question

I bought a 79 K5 Blazer and had to get it inspected because I bought it out of state and they want to be sure there is nothing funny going on with it. I have pics posted in the Blazer, Jimmy and Suburban section.

My question is...The VIN tag on the dash has almost rusted away, luckily there is enough there that the inspection went smoothly, What do you do when the tag is almost gone?

Re: VIN tag question

Photograph it. If it does finally rust to the point of being unreadable, your picture, together with the vehicle's hidden VINs should be enough to cover any problems in the future. You can't really do anything short of trying to freshen up the tag with some light sanding and paint.

Re: VIN tag question

years back i had a similar problem with a 1970 Ford maverick... the state police here told me to take a piece of paper and lay it over the VIN tag and using a lead pencil make a copy of the actual tag by brushing the pencil over the numbers and the raised numbers come out darker . This the photograph and the hidden VIN are good proof..
I never had to transfer the car because it went to the crusher when i was done with it but that would have been given to the new owner with the paperwork

Re: VIN tag question

That is a good idea, I may do that also.

I used to have a Maverick, loved that car- factory 302. I'd love to have another one, but I just don't have the room at the moment.
