Heap Re-Do Part 2, The Motor Swap

I had posted in the original Heap Re-Do thread that future plans called for a 350 GM crate motor. I was literally minutes away from ordering a motor when a friend called me. My buddy said he had something at his shop I may be interested in. I drive down there and he introduced me to a 41,000 mile motor that looked brand new under the valve covers and even better under the TBI intake manifold. We struck a deal and I started the transplant at his shop last saturday. A 700R-4 was already in my garage waiting to be bolted to something. I had it made, lift, welder, Bridgeport Mill, hot tank, and a wall unit slam full of every nut and bolt known to man. Not to mention the salvage yard behind the shop.

I drove the Heap home Thursday night grinning from ear to ear. The only issue so far is with the brand new Weiand intake manifold, has a crack in the casting near the water neck. I called Summit and they shipped a replacement ASAP. I'll get it installed tomorrow night after work. The next couple weeks will be spent detailing out the under hood wiring and plumbing. I finished up the fuel line yesterday.

Oh, I forgot to mention, it's a BIG BLOCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Heap Re-Do Part 2, The Motor Swap

What size carb are you using?
Also,... Is that a steel fuel line with an "AN style" T fitting?

Your truck just got "cool-er",... if that's possible.

Thanks!

Holley 670 Street Avenger. I haven't tried tuning it yet. Since the manifold had to be replaced I didn't see and use in getting too detailed with the carb or timing.

Steel brake line with a stainless "T" and AN fittings. I kept cracking the stainless line. My flaring skills are very rusty. LOL.

The truck shaft was too long. Used a shaft from a '85 Chevy Caprice wagon, same car the transmission came out of. Just had to get a "combo" U-Joint to mate the shaft to my pinion yoke. Fits perfect.

I also forgot to add info about the exhaust. My friend's shop where I did all the work also has an exhaust pipe bender. So, we bent up 2.50 inch pipe from the manifolds and out the back through some Magna Flow mufflers I had from another project. Has a really nice mellow sound, until you stomp on it. LOL.

Yes I did. I had a back up plan. There's a place about 30 minutes from me that will build a shaft with same day turn around.

You need a flaring tool designed to flare stainless - that's why it's cracking on you. I have one you can borrow. (they aren't cheap)
