I have been coming across some duallys but they are all long bed and even in the pics posted here they are all the same. Do they come short bed?

I have just noticed they are all long beds. On the picture postings on crew cabs there is one that is short bed but I guess they made that one like that thats why I was wondering.

Re: Do all crew cab duallys come with long beds?

In this body style, they only came as long beds. There are a few here who have made them into short beds. It's pretty involved to do, but it isn't the hardest thing in the world to do.

I've never had much of a problem parking the one I used to have- it was ugly enough, people just avoided parking next to me.

Re: Do all crew cab duallys come with long beds?

Bigger cabs and shorter beds seem to be a more "modern" thing. The trend has shifted toward pick-up trucks becoming cars with really big trunks. Cabs have gotten bigger (especially in mid-size and smaller trucks) and more luxurious, and the beds have gotten shorter.
Some have even gotten to the point of no bed-side space in front of the rear wheel opening. The wheel arch starts right at the back of the cab.....and beds as short as 4 feet.

Driving a truck as long as a crewcab doesn't seem as bad as the fact that the dually fenders are sticking out. "Newbies" always seem to knock the fenders off of them.

Re: Do all crew cab duallys come with long beds?

There were some people who did DRW conversions on trucks in the 70s-90s. (Even recently, just not as many.) So, there may be some short bed DRW trucks running around, but not from GM.

Re: Do all crew cab duallys come with long beds?

In 2000 I think they did some short bed duallys in the 88-98 bodystyle. I have also seen a couple of the newer fords, and dodges having them. However, before that they were all long beds originally.

Re: Do all crew cab duallys come with long beds?

My regular cab long bed is difficult enough to park. It seems like the steering doesn't give the wheels as much angle as the newer trucks. I've driven some newer crew cab shortbed trucks and they seem to have a better turning radius, even with a longer wheel base.

Yeah, they can be a little unwieldy at times. You just gotta plan ahead a little bit...or take up 4 spots.

not so much around here, the spots keep getting smaller and smaller and smaller. you can see the old lines and how much they shift to gain 2-3 buy the end of the row.

he does have a point around here. Sometimes I have a hard time parking my intrepid and having enough room to get out. it annoys me how much they will take away just to squeeze in a couple spots.

Re: Do all crew cab duallys come with long beds?

So are all dually beds the same?
found a really clean 1987 std. cab dually but it has a flat bed on it. Quick search on CL I came up with a really niice bed, guy is not exacty sure of the year of truck bed. he says 80 thru 90. I will attach a pic.

Re: Do all crew cab duallys come with long beds?

Just like the fleetside trucks, the beds are, for the most part, the same throughout the years.

The fuel filler style changed from an exposed cap on the bedside to the "fuel door" style in '80, IIRC. There's also some minor tailgate hardware changes, but I'm unsure of the specifics.

Re: Do all crew cab duallys come with long beds?

Yea, the actual tailgate hinge parts changed (in 81 I think). This includes the parts bolted to the tailgate and the parts bolted to the bed. I assume they can be changed around for an older gate on a newer bed or vice versa
