finally back into a old GM... 4WD this time!!

well after selling my 71 sb a few years ago i've been dying to get back into one. i was on another forum this morning and saw a sweet (to me anyway) 4wd 2500 V6 up for sale.

so after a little bidding war in the final seconds i am now the proud owner of a 4wd factory 4sp V6 68 GMC w/ 20k orig miles!!

i've been wanting something 4wd for a while and this is perfect for me. it runs, drives and stops and even has the factory tach cluster!!

plans are to get get it road worthy right now. it needs rockers and floor pans but that's no big deal. i plan on lifting it another 4-6" or so and running some 37s.

anyway here are some pics. let me know what you guys think.

Re: finally back into a c-10... 4WD this time!!

hmmm I see a hand brake under the dash there, I thought 68 was the last year for those?? cool truck. I also am back into a c10n after 28yrs! I had my first one when I was 13, parents gave it to me, 69gmc short fleet. I gave it back to them when I bought a 67 c20 long box when I was 15. I only got to drive the c20 a few months before I rolled it only 500ft from the house. That was a sad sad day lol. You can imagine all the nick names I got from that smooth move. Haha. My brother got the 69 short box. he fixed the cab, new rockers, cab corners and cab mounts then found a truck that did not need all the work so that cab has been sitting. The other day my dad called me a told me about a 68 gmc short 4x4 for sale that had a spotty cab. So I scooped up that 4x4 in a hurry. I already have all new body mounts and body lift kit and that old cab I had when I was 13 is going on! ah all the plans. I cant wait. lol... Keep us posted with pics. Congrats on the 4x4!

hmm ok after a second look, the gmc is in the grill not on the hood, that was only on the 67 model year. could it be a 67 with a big back window? after market grill perhaps? That grill is in very nice shape. 68's also had the black accents painted on the grill.

Appears to be a 68 with a 67 grill. Should be a fun truck for you. Even has a tach and tow hooks. Good find.

I think that`s a nice truck.I don`t see anything about it that says 20,000 original miles,though.if it was a Chevy,it would be a K/10 not a C/10.But,it`s a GMC so it`s a K1500.

Great looking truck!! I do agree with special-K, probably not 20,000 miles. Look at the wear on the steering wheel alone, the red is all worn off. Regardless, a 68 3/4 ton will be a very fun truck regardless of how many miles are on it. You don't see a whole lot of them on the road either. Great find!!

One thing about it, that Orange interior will keep you awake! I have a parts truck with the same color. Thats a great project for the winter!

I`d wager that was a Fire Truck.I still think the milage is higher. But,it`s red on red,the bed`s gone, has PTO,and mic clip on dash.

Re: finally back into a c-10... 4WD this time!!

thanks guys. ha i'm so used to saying C-10 i forgot there was a K series lol.

it is a 1 owner truck actually. it was used on an estate in upstate NY. that is where my buddy got it from. yea, i'm not 100% positive on the mileage and neither was he but, for what it is and has i'd say i got a good deal (at least that's my story to the girlfriend)

how can you tell it's got a PTO?

Re: finally back into a c-10... 4WD this time!!

well i went and picked the truck up on sunday. i was actually more pleased than i thought i was gonna be. the truck is all there with the exception of the rockers and cab corners hahaha. they are gone!! i love how people try to use spray foam for everything. i found garbage bags and prolly a whole cans worth of the stuff between the 2 rockers.

under the hood is super "clean". no rot in the wheel wells, rad support, grille or firewall.

they used the truck in the field so there is mud everywhere under it. i will however have to replace the whole rear cab brace as it's gone as well.

i do believe that the truck does have 20k orig miles though. the interior w/ the exception of the seat is super clean. it's still got the orig dash pad!! every gauge still works even the tach and it's got a manual choke knob which is awesome!!!

i put some fuel in and started on the second crank!!

i started cutting out the ps rocker and cab corner but stopped b/c i'm going to need to pull the tank to really brace the cab up so i can get everything straight.

here are some more pics

looks like a good project to me! I would agree with some of the others, that it also looks like a old fire/bush truck, with the red on red and that big back bumper!

That looks like a great project! So, you need to start a build thread so we can watch your progress
