Re: My 67 Stepside Build

So i have been pretty busy with this thing, buying parts and what not.

bought
window regulators right and left
1 wire alt
brake master
hood hinges
inner door handle assy
misc odds and ends

what i have done so far

install the alt
clean up shotty led wiring in the cluster
take out seat, and carpet to inspect rust
make a gas petal bracket.(as AZ knows the 72 and older used a linkage type gas petal assy.)
so i switched it to a 72 cable style assy

will get pics when im done with the brakes, should be on sat

Re: My 67 Stepside Build

Ok i think i finished the gauges so far, i still need to make a new harness for the gauges and get some new bulb harnesses but the layout i think is good

paint
im not sure how i am going to paint the bezel... i am going to the local flea market to find a mexican blanket for the seat cover, and door panel covers. i want red, black, grey and white for the blanket, so i think i will repaint the black part black and where the chrome is, make that red... what do you think??

PICS so far

opps i need to trim it!!

there we go

here we go!!

now with the lighting, LED's now i think i figured out what to do
see the secont to last pic? all those little black dots on the back are bulbs
here is what i did
Stock bulb holder

i need to get white and green bulbs then i can see if it works!!

Re: My 67 Stepside Build

i got the gauges done with the help of a friend that can solder like no other!!
but the are not that bright, we need to change the resistors so they are brighter
i might remove the auto meter fuel gauge and replace it with something else, and try and use the stock fuel gauge and speedo just so i dont have to chop up a good cluster any more than i have to
when installing the cluster i reinstalled the carpet and redid the seat mounting.

looks so much better

the rear wheel is in side the wheel well now, before it stuck out like two inches, no thanks

tuckin 295's , well not yet:wink:

Re: My 67 Stepside Build

some drama occurred

My friends friends dad owns a muffer shop and this guy came in and asked if he wanted or knew any one that wanted these two trucks, he said he did not want them but he know some one that did.

so he called my friend and then my friend called me and le me know i could have the 67 the guy had, i said cool **** lets get them, and this other guy was going to get the 71..

so like two days go buy and the first person the guy told decided he wanted the 67, so i wasn't going to get ****,,,oh well

so then like 3 days ago my friend called me and told me that he called the guy that was being stupid and told him he dident need the truck and to finish his truck first......
LOL

so i think im picking them up on sat morning, and IF i do i will get some pics

the last two days i have been cleaning the shop like a mad man tring to make room and get organized, after we got the 5 toyotas and stripped them all the place was a ****ing disaster, parts, oil, more parts, tubing, cabs, beds, axels, you ****ing name it we had that **** in there...its getting better

Re: My 67 Stepside Build

still no 2nd parts truck, the guy is super busy or something. i cant complain about a free truck

we got our tax return and i have been selling a bunch of left over crap from the shop thats been just sitting around.

wifey said i could spend some money :P

so i bought these to re build my front end

Got a radiator today too.

and today i went to the shop to start the tear down of a tbi 350 i have.

was going great in till the ****er fell off the stand LOL

i went to rotate it upside down to disassemble the bottom end and it fell off

the bolts that were holding it bent and broke, luckily no ones feet were under it.

so at the moment i am looking for complete rebuild kits at summit racing

im planning on buying

rebuild kit
electric fuel pump
fuel pressure reg
new fuel lines
remote trans cooler
water pump
radiator hoses
cam
lifters
push rods
paint- truck and motor
700r4 trans
tv adapter kit

Re: My 67 Stepside Build

so i got the heads on monday, and they look great!!

the paint did not last that long, i guess when you clean a bare 350 and you want to keep the cam bearings good, dont wash it LOL so i took the block to the machine shop.

and had the new flat top pistons put on the rods, honed, hot tanked, freeze plugs installed and then the NEW cam bearings put in.

so tonight after work(i get off at midnight) i drove to the shop, cleaned the oil off the outside of the block, taped it up and painted that ***** again, i also painted the heads, intake mani, air filter cover, and the timing cover again.

no pics because i drove the TL there

its 2:20am now and at 7am im going to hopefully wake up walk the dog then go to the shop and start putting this thing together...

and i WILL get pics, maybe a movie...

Re: My 67 Stepside Build

well here is an update, havent worked on the truck at all the past few weeks, because i am moving out of the shop i was renting. and moving my tools over to my parents house. Its alot closer and i felt i was not getting what i paid for there.....

plus maybe me and my dad can finish this as a father-son-grandson project WINK WINK DAD!!!:wink:

so you guys remember when i was going to get that longbed for free.........................................

well i got it but not for free i am paing 300 for the whole truck minus the front sheet metal..IE hood, fenders and the grill..

here are the pics, i will be doing the body work on the cab and stuff at my parents house THANKS MOM AND DAD!!!!:thumbup:

on with the story and the pics

I have been looking for a complete 67 cab with doors for a while now because mine is a rust bucket.

my buddy told me about this about two months ago. he said that he knew this guy that was giving away two trucks a 72 and a 67 both long beds.
they have been sitting in the barn for the last 10+ years. i told him i wanted the 67 sight un seen
both are complete with engines and trans the kicker is the guy wanted the I6 back from the 67..

last week he calls me to let me know he pulled them out an towed them to his storage yard, i was pretty happy because i pretty much forgot about it

so today i go over and check out my new cab.

on with the pics
