I need some new wiring. what should i do?
I'm 19 and this is my first car/project. As of right now my windshield wipers and blinkers don't work. Most of my fuse block is burnt out, and seeing how i live in the Northwest i find that my windshield wipers and blinkers are a tad bit important.
I also would like to get my radio and heater and other accesories working but my wiring is pretty messed up. So my Real question is - Should i buy a wiring harness/kit? or should i just buy some wiring and a new fuse block and do it all myself?

My vote is to do it right. You might be able to find a decent used wiring harness pretty cheap but if there are already problems you might just get a repeat performance of the meltdown. There are several members up in your area that may be able to help and some are vendors.
You can serarch in these forums for parts: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/forumdisplay.php?f=8 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/f...play.php?f=195 Vendor list: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a....php?f=87&a=10 |

If you have little to no experience in rewiring then buy a kit. If you want the chalenge then buy some wire but be warned rewiring is a PIA even for those that have experience.

Welcome to the board from Texas, when It come to 40 year old wiring, I would buy a kit and replace it. I'm seen several of our trucks in junkyards that have caught wire under the dash due to old wiring.

by burned is the insullation melted off// if the insullation isn't melted and the fuse holder isnt melted b4 buying anythin i'd star with some goje and start cleaning up one wire at a time to verify condition having the proper wiring diagram to id each wire and i'd also remove and trace all obvious nonstock wires then with small wire brush and a scotchbrite pad clean up all contacts in the fuse holder// that way you can get a realistic overall view of the condition of your wiring system b4 spending any money for a replacement

Re: I need some new wiring. what should i do?
Hello and welcome,
I would do the complete wiring harness. I have installed several of them and I find using one of the Haywire harnesses is the best. They are not cheap but are well worth the money. Depending on what you want in your vehicle you can use either the 7 or 14 circuit system. Do it right and do it once, just my 2 cents. Best of luck, Dan

Re: I need some new wiring. what should i do?
Thank you all for the warm welcome! i really appreciate it
I'll be sure to post some pictures of "Dorothy." I love my mom and Wizard of oz is her favorite movie. What's the best place to order a wiring harness from? and which is the best brand? I know Decodan said Haywire, but i've also heard Painless and Deluxe were good, reliable brands?
