18 Years Old, And 2 Builds At Once...
I'm originally from northeastern ohio but I recently relocated to west Texas. I lived her for 2 weeks before i broke down and bought another project...
1963 C-10 Shortbed. 283 with a powerglide. the steering columm look to be out of a late 60's chevy wagon, along with the steering wheel. Its a little rough but for $125.00 from a farmer out of a field, it aint too bad. had to put $75 worth of tires on it to push it home. Now heres my daily driver since the day i turned 16. 1965 C10, longbed, 355 with a international new process 4 spd. I bought it when i was 13 and have been workin on it since. Its been through a few motor and tranny combinations over the years but it was the only one of its kind in the high school parking lot. I was young and stupid and decided to torch the coils one night so its pretty low, but rides like hell. I painted it in my backyard with a gallon of flat black from the hardware store and it looks pretty good as long as im moving and its at night. As for the 63, im plannin on lowering it and putting in the extra 383 ive got with a stout saginaw i had built a few years back. its gonna be the weekend cruiser and the "have some fun in" truck. I'd like to paint it flat black as well and straightin up some stuff on the body. I just want it to cruise sonic on friday nights a maybe make a couple passes every once in awhile. Now the 65 has got some bigger plans. I'd like it to become the daily driver and tow rig. But I'm going to lift it... It's only 2wd right now but ive got the front suspension off an old international laying out in the garage im considering. also i could just lift it and leave it 2wd. I'd like to be able to run some 33's. I'm leaving the color scheme just ironing out some stupid high school mistakes i made... I'm workin in a local body shop so ive finally got access to decent tools and knowledgable people when it comes to body work. Comments, questions, and advice will all be takin to heart. Please no smack talking though, I'm open to critizism but i'm not stupid. I'm only 18 but ive grown up around rods all my life and i'm one of those people that just likes to turn heads when i pull into somewhere |

Re: 18 Years Old, And 2 Builds At Once...
Good for you. Youth, ambition, and a plan - no telling how much you can accomplish. Both are nice looking rigs, and having the resources of a bodyshop and experienced talent around to get over the rough spots is a real benefit.
I was in the Marines at 18, so I understand being young doesn't mean stupid. I was passing tools in the garage when I was 5 and changing clutches and doing tuneups by myself at 10. I knew more about cars by 15 than most of the adults of my parents generation, and I learned a lot from a couple of old school mechanics. And welcome from the Northwest! |

Sounds like you've got a solid plan there, and the means to execute it. Welcome!

Welcome aboard! I dig your projects. As you'll find out, most of us have a "couple" projects that get in the way of each other.
That '63 from the field is perfect! Just slam it and put wide whites on her. Good to go!

Cool to see a young buck who is into the old iron and not a Fast and Furious wanna be. Keep up the good work, the flat black and red looks great.

Re: 18 Years Old, And 2 Builds At Once...
so for now ive decided to stick with the 283 in the 63 due to lack of funds and motors still being in ohio... they wont let you take a small block on an airplane as a carry on. so i started tearin into it after work tonight and got the carb off and some other issues sorted out. now its seeing if napa in town has a rebuild kit or order one offline. but for now ill just be tearin her down in the living room in front of the tv. sorry bout the pic quality but ive only got my cell phone for now.

Re: 18 Years Old, And 2 Builds At Once...
welcome to the forum and welcome to Texas. Sweet builds you got going on. What town did you end up moving to?
Also if you ever wanna serve you can join the Army. They have a plan where you join and they teach you everything you need to know to get your diploma or GED. It's a thought. If you wanna know some more I can find out some for ya. But welcome to the site.

Re: 18 Years Old, And 2 Builds At Once...
im livin in Hermliegh, about an hours west of abilene. and yea i actually did get my GED in ohio they told me i had to have a high school diploma if i wanted to enlist. I just left it at that and moved on with my life. The whole high school thing was kinda stupid though, on my part. me and a bunch of buddys were goin huntin after a basketball game so i had my shotgun behind the seat of my truck, chamber open, registered, ammo locked in my toolbox. it got searched because the cops in my town new the 65 and i got arrested on the spot. i was more pissed that when they slammed me my belt buckle scratched the hell out off my paint on my hood. but one night in jail and they let me off with a slap on the wrist. honor student, all ohio soccer player, expelled from high school. thought it was a little comical.

Re: 18 Years Old, And 2 Builds At Once...
If you go back to the main message board, Go almost down to the bottom till you see texas. There is a lot of us in texas and around your area. I know Dammitmichell is in Abilene. If you get a chance you should come out to Tyler Dec 5-6 for Turkey Drag. It's a good show, but it is like a 5 hour drive for ya.

Re: 18 Years Old, And 2 Builds At Once...
I have two projects myself. 3 if you count the Mustang I never do anything with, and I am not 18 so the energy is harder to find.
Good Luck with your builds.

Re: 18 Years Old, And 2 Builds At Once...
Is there a tag on it with the ID numbers on it? If so you should be able to take those numbers to a good parts store and get a kit for that carb.
