Dashboard Confessions...Not Really
Alright, I am in the process of gutting my crew and gotten everything out but the stupid dash. Do I have to have the windshield removed to remove the dash as I don't see a seam on the dash to where it mates up with the firewall to get it removed. I have all the bolts out but do not want to start wrestling it out and end up breaking my windshield. Any help on how to remove it will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Dashboard Confessions...Not Really
Are you talking about the dash pad or the metal dash itself? If the pad, then no, the windshield can stay in. If the metal dash, then the windshield must come out and the welds cut and then the dash can come out.

The metal itself. I don't understand why they put bolts on the sides but welded it up at the top. I was hoping it would be something simple. Guess I will be breaking out the saw-z-all

I think I remembered it correctly. If I didn't, one of the other members will correct me. I remember this being brought up a while back though.

Re: Dashboard Confessions...Not Really
the dash is actually a part of the cab structure and helps to stop it from collapsing in a crash. Why are you removing it? just out of curiosity

I believe ya. I couldn't find a seam and it looked like it ran into the windshield lip. I just am lost on why GM put 4 bolts on the sides to hold it and welded it at the top. IT is like they are Daring you to try to remove it but know you can't.

Re: Dashboard Confessions...Not Really
MY truck is bagged and bodydropped and I want to run all fiberglass panels since alot of the inside panels on my truck are damaged. I have a dash out of a 63 C-10 I was thinking of putting in and making a fiberglass centerconsole and fiberglassing all the panels but I am worried if people will be able to notice whats metal and whats not.

Re: Dashboard Confessions...Not Really
don't use a sawzall, just get a 1/4 inch drill bit and drill out the spotwelds,it will be much easier to remove.just drill through that layer of metal and not the whole pinch weld that way you have something to weld to later.

Trying to do it without removing my windshield just yet. I plan on cutting behind the vin so I still have some metal to attach whatever I decide to do.
