Silverado 5 speed - Grind into second

Hey Guys,

I recently bought a 1999 Silverado 4x4 with the 4.8L and a 5 speed manual. It's a great truck for the price and age. The truck has been well taken care of but with any used vehicle there is always an issue that appears with time.

My problem is intermittent. On a cold start up (starting into winter here) the first time I shift into second gear I get a grind... hard to put into gear. For the rest of my drive there is no issue (I drive a split of city and highway to work, so I am doing quite a few starts and stops ). Also, if I go back out and the truck is still warm there is no issue. Has anyone else had this issue? Or any idea's and where to troubleshoot? Or is it a common problem with age and I just need to be more patient on the warm up in the morning?
