Motor sits further forward than other trucks.

I have a 69 chevy C/10 long box and the motor sites more forward than any other truck I have seen. The shifter boot is even diferant. it has an angeled bottem on it. It is the origenal 4 speed and rear end. Does anybodys truck have this? Or can anybody tell me more about this?

Re: Motor sites further forward than other trucks.

I don't have a camra right now. It is a 350 with standerd small block mounts. On the frames that i have looked at the front motor mount brackets has 2 positions it can sit in. Mine is in the front 2 holes. There is about 6" of clearance between fire wall and the distributer cap.

Re: Motor sites further forward than other trucks.

6 cylinder and v8 mounts are different.
theirs a couple of places on the frame to bolt the mounts up to.
if you put the left mount on the right side.
so theirs about a dozen different motor mount positions you can come up with pretty quick with these trucks.

Re: Motor sits further forward than other trucks.

The motor mount brackets have factory rivets in them. It was a factory 350 and facrory 4 speed.and even the shifter boot and hole in the tunnal is factory. truck has been in family sance new and has never been modified.

Re: Motor sits further forward than other trucks.

2 wheel drive trucks had the engine moved considerably forward verses the 4X4 you are comparing it to.

Re: Motor sits further forward than other trucks.

If you are comparing it to your Blazer then it should sit further ahead. In the 4x4's the small block will sit very close to the firewall. As a matter of fact if you have HEI on a small block on a 4x4 the distributor cap may sit within 1/2" of the firewall. The 2wd's have the engine sitting forward a couple inches more. I believe the 4x4 is set farther back to give the oil pan more clearance between it and the front differential.

Re: Motor sits further forward than other trucks.

It depends on what you`re comparing to.The 4wd V8s sat back into the firewall. Also, many who swap V8s into 6 cyl trucks use the cyl mount locations so they don`t have to lengthen the driveshaft or move the crossmember.

Re: Motor sits further forward than other trucks.

Factory engine mounts were never riveted to the frame. Are you sure they're not 3/8 bolts ?

Re: Motor sits further forward than other trucks.

I gess i have never looked at any other 2wd with factory V8. as for as the rivets on the motor mounts i must be mistaken. I have allways thought thay were rivited on. Never looked that close. thank you everyone for the info.

Re: Motor sits further forward than other trucks.

Currently doing a 69 SWB 4WD, came factory with the 292 six cylinder, with a 3 speed manual and a Rockwell T-221. I switched to a 350/350/205 combo. Seemed simple til I tried switching mounts on the frame. Only one set of holes in the chassis. Only one set of holes for the trans. crossmember. Never saw a frame without multiple sets of holes. I had to get a crossmember out of a 72 K-5 bolt it to the engine and slide into place, drill new holes and bolt them down. My buddy said I had the only Chevrolet in the world that Chevrolet parts would not fit...LOL....scott

Re: Motor sits further forward than other trucks.

2 wheel drive had the motor positioned in an easy too service location that helped ballance the truck out (when fully loaded)
On a 4X4, as mentioned earlier, they did this due to needing the driveshaft for the front axle to be longer, so the engine had to move back.
