Re: Pics of an 83 restoration

Why do people blur out there license plate..LOL 5,000 + people see it everyday. I can see doing it to the vin, but , its pretty useless for the plate. you can't call DMV with a plate number and get any info.
Truck looks good though. I love that color combo.

.
THese days with the internet you will be surprised what kind of info you can get. I hunt people for a living and i have access to various sites that can supply me with forwarding addresses, motor vehicle records, prison records, and credit information. Dont think that thieves dont have access to this kind of information too as alot of it is free or relatively free if you know where to look. Granted its prolly just as easy for some hi tech thieves to trace an IP address from a screen name on the computer as it is for them to run a skip trace or DMV on a truck that looks sharp if they want to steal it either for parts or export..
Alot of the people on this site who custom their trucks have thousands of dollars tied up in them. this translates to big money for those who steal and strip. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure when it comes to minimizing your risk with theft..
and if anyone is reading this who is thinking of stealing my truck, its in such bad shape youll have to pay me to take it back!!!

You have more to fear from a neighbor, friend of a neighbor or someone who passes by your home / work and sees it than you do somebody tracking you down from a plate number seen on the internet.

Nothing at all. But why go driving around when you can surf the net looking for trucks in your area. As an example I have never seen this truck before. I did notice that it's from Houston. With a bit of reserach I could locate where it lives, especially if I had his license number.

The point is it's just a precaution. May not matter, but why not take it if it makes you feel more comfortable.

Back to the topic at hand. Nice resto work luckyAg02.

Re: Pics of an 83 restoration

If you modify any motor vehicle, especially if you hop the motor up, always disguise your plates. In case of an accident, an insurance company will stick it to you so fast for driving a hot rod, your head will spin faster than Linda Blair's in "The Exorcist".

Re: Pics of an 83 restoration

Cool, I'm glad y'all like it. I wasn't expecting this topic to still be at the top to be honest. It was my grandads old farm truck (he bought it new looking like the final pic), then my dad's, and then it became my first car. It's been good to us so (and its dirt cheap to maintain), so I figured why not get it back to where it should be. To be honest it looks MUCH better at night. That silver looks like a bullet going down the road.

This was the first and expensive part and I figured to get it out of the way while we can afford it. Everything else is relatively old and is being pieced back to original over time. It's working with 350 crate that needs to be rebuilt along with replacing the cracked motor mounts. Next up though is replacing all the electrical wiring and harness before it burns to the ground, then the gear box to hopefully get the steering tightened up, and then engine work.

Interior is original but just old. Floors pad and carpet need replacing, cracked dash, some rips on the vinyl seats....... If anyone has a recomendation on where to get a OEM dark blue dash I'm all ears.

Re: Pics of an 83 restoration

Glad to hear more about the history of the truck. That makes it worth so much more to you.

Finding a good OEM Blue dash pad is going to take some searching, and some $$$. You may consider using the caps, or replacement pads. If you don't want to go that route just keep an eye out, and sometimes on e-bay, or here in the classifieds you can come across a good OEM pad.
