Re: Single wall top quarter(side) window gaskets

ok guys, did you recieve the singlewall top version or the thick double wall top one. I just recieved my order and it's the thick gasket for a double wall top. I have both tops and puting the double wall top gasket on a single wall is an accident waiting to happen, it's just not a tight fit at all.
the part number from gmcp was (J-1565), the number seen(written) on the gasket is 70-1841-81.
Did something change over time?? do you guys have pictures of the installed gasket? I have pictures of my old gaskets, I'll post them when i get some more time.

any coments,

ARQ.

Just got mine in yesterday. Exact same numbers. The seals are the same style as the rear hatch seal that I also ordered. I have yet to try installing them though...

I have the same ones as you. I mocked them up and they fit flush with the outside of the top- no gap. Maybe try installing them and see what happens...

Re: Single wall top quarter(side) window gaskets

I ordered gaskets from LMC and they don't sell a single wall side gasket. Looks like I'm going to buy from somewhere else. Anybody seen a better price than 95.00 for both sides?

Re: Single wall top quarter(side) window gaskets

Bobby,
do you have close up pics of the gaskets? were the original and the new gaskets the same "thickness". Are they a tight fit?

Blue4x4,

I like the color of you blazer, looks like mine :-) to answer your question. I have not found the "correct" gasket yet. I ordered(and sent back) from chevyduty and they said were the wrong ones too. I had the guy compare both single and doublewall top gasket when i sent them back. Not sure if they stocked them wrong but they were exactly like the origninal doublewall top I have. Picutes don't lie, you decide. There is a huge difference in the gasket thickness. I personally do not want to risk, having a window fly out in the middle of the freeway. I orderd from gmcpauls and sent them an email. I had not heard gotten a reply back yet, so i called them. They sent the pics to the manufacure to compare, and will get back to me with the outcome.

I wish I would not have sold my softtop...

thanks,

ARQ.

Re: Single wall top quarter(side) window gaskets

bobby,
were you able to get pictures of the gaskets??

gringo,
if you lift the gasket from the edge you'll notice a large gap. It's not a tight fit, these are for double wall tops. the only reason that it looks like it will fit is the way the gasked shaped. it curved into the top. with air pushing up against it who knows what will happen.

thanks,

ARQ.

Re: Single wall top quarter(side) window gaskets

I'll give anyone $25.00 if they can come up with a vendor that currently sells the singlewall top gaskets. I want to see detailed close up pictures, part numbers, and contact info. Email me below.

Re: Single wall top quarter(side) window gaskets

I know this is an old post, but I have the same question. I used a gasket when I first restored the top, but I'm pretty sure it is for the dbl-wall top. I am about to put my single-wall top back on for the winter, but I want to put the correct gaskets on it. I've noticed that several vendors offer both, but has anyone oredered the gaskets for the single wall top lately.

Thanks.

I'm fixing up the top on "Merlot" to help it sell
and I also need a set of these SWT gaskets.

I know it's an old thread, but I'm still looking too. I can find double wall but not single wall. The profile on the stuff I got looks exactly like the rubber for my rear window.

Re: Single wall top quarter(side) window gaskets

I mentioned this to Tim Christian and he told me he could get the correct ones. I'd give him a try. If you don't, I will later this year as I have to repair my hardtop and I plan to replace the gaskets I currently have.

Re: Single wall top quarter(side) window gaskets

I am an old glass man.....but rather new to the Blazer world. I checked my old sources and the NAGS # for the glass is a DQ 1107. The only part # for a gasket they show currently available is a wbl d 1107 t. I would guess there were more dbl. wall made and this may be all that is being made today. I would bet all suppliers are all made by the same Taiwan manufacturer. With that being said, the part that holds that glass in place is the slit the pinch weld goes into. Is the pinch weld the same on a single as a double? Is the slit it goes into the same? If the slit it is the same thickness it would hold the same as the single wall. The difference is the offset on the glass (if I am looking at the photos correctly). This should not effect the glass staying in but it does not look correct. I would not like this look either. If you can not find any old stock or good used gaskets would it be possible to install the left on the right and vise versa? This would put the offset on the other side of the pinch weld and look more correct on the outside. This might confuse you but the outside left would become the inside right. Instead of roping it in place from the inside, rope from the outside with the glass being held from the inside, not outside. This might not look any better but something you might look into......this is an old trick I used to do on dump truck backglasses when I didn't want to risk standing under the bed. I hope this helps, Bubba
PS, I know its fiberglass and not a pinch weld but what else would you call it?
