Re: need opinions

Depending on how bad it is I'd at least look into having the frame straightened before thinking about replacing. That is unless you were planning a frame off resto in the near future.

Re: need opinions

Frames aren't too bad on these things, there's one in the classifieds for like 250. It is a ton of work tho. If you're planning on building one up from the ground i'd say replace it.

Re: need opinions

I say get it straightened. It really isn't that expensive, and if done right you can't even tell it has been done. If you get another frame you will have to move everything over, and also probably at least get it checked by a shop for straightness. These trucks were used for alot of hard work, and just because the truck hasn't been in an accident doesn't mean the frame hasn't been tweaked by pulling/hauling heavy loads. I had a truck that the rear part of the frame at the back of the bed was 1" lower than the opposite side. Straight as an arrow, no accidents, just lower on the over all back corner starting from the rear differential back. looks like somebody maybe hauled something really heavy on that side and maybe it bounced around, or maybe a heavy piece of equipment was mounted on that side. Just a thought.

Re: need opinions

well im still weighing my options out. im not building a show truck but rather a really nice driver. a buddy of mine built a 72 4x4 and put it on a blazer frame and he said he has to carry both titles. frame and body.

Re: need opinions

Buy a new one... take your time and build it the way you want then swap the metal.... Never heard of having to carry two titles... Different states have different laws but PA is pretty strict and you do not have to!

Re: need opinions

I would never tear the truck down so that you cannot drive it. Keep it driveable or you may never finish it. I would not go though all that work to swap frames just to save $275. The next frame you buy could be bent, too, or have some other issues that totally negate any money you saved. Also, your time is worth more than $275 IMO.

Re: need opinions

Changing frames is way more than $275 worth of labor, even figuring your free time enjoying the process. There`s a whole lot of $275 dollars to invest.
