Adding Power Locks and Windows

If i want to add power locks and windows to my '78 K10, am I OK just buying the kits from LMC Truck, or should I try to find factory parts from a different vehicle for added strength and durability?

If your answer is the 2nd one, where do I start looking?
How much would I expect to pay? (The kit on LMC is $90 for the doors, $170 for the windows)

ive seen alot of doors in the pick your part wrecking yards out there for 35.00 and up each door, the good thing about a pick n pull is you can pull the power door harness out of the truck you get the doors out of..

I'm in the middle of swapping over to PW and PL's on my 86. I bought a complete cab from a wreck that had all the correct color interior door panels and complete wiring harness needed. You'll be hard pressed to drill the holes in the doors and door jambs w/out the doors being off the truck. The harness is installed but haven't had time to put the guts back into the doors yet. Even though the windows worked before removing they were slow. I plan on new motors for the window regulators. I also plan on cleaning and greasing the tracks and wheels on the regulators.

I would suggest using oem parts from a junk yard. I just did this on mine and the harness went in easily. I put the whole doors on my truck so I didn't have to mess around installing the motors.

I need some more help with this.

I cannot replace the whole doors because the truck has a new paint job, so that would be dumb to do.

I need to either buy a kit from LMC or another aftermarket source, or go the junkyard/OEM route with a full rip and replace process. This goes for Locks AND Windows.

Cost is not really a factor. I'll gladly pay a pro to do this, but I just want to give that pro the best kit right off the bat.

My suggestion is you find a donor vehicle. Look at Burbs as a good source as "most" of them came with PW & PDL. If you can snag the doors and "complete" harness your miles ahead.

Take the doors apart and get everything you need at one time. Install in your doors and enjoy.

You want to try to find a donor with a similar fuse panel design as your truck. Blade fuse for blade fuse and glass fuse for glass fuse. The connectors used to wire it into the truck are different. If you get the right one it will just plug right into the stock fuse panel. The wrong one and you will be doing some custom wiring.

I got the Suburban doors from a newer donor as well as the cross over harness but also found an older two door donor to get the wiring and driver side two window switch out of.

I haven't had the time to do the swap yet but will document the process of the conversion, wire harness integration between the two styles of wiring and the 4-door to 2-door control wiring clean up.
