Normy71
Well off I go with my Build post I have been putting it off for a long time.
My 71 Gmc was purchased in April of 09 it was sitting in a snow bank and I was only able to get into one side of the truck. The motor ran quite nice but tranny only went in reverse .

Re: Normy71
Well it looks like you got enough tin to get all that rust out. I'll look forward to see your progress on the cab so I can learn from your mistakes. LOL

Re: Normy71
More of the C notch need a good drill and bit for these frames they are made of good steel.( I did brake one 7/16 bit).
Hoist helps again when no help around to flip the frame! Also needed in every build a BFH!! Removing rivets and starting to mark out the frame for shortening

Re: Normy71
More of the frame long to short.
Lots and lots of prep time measure measure ... I made the legs adjustable. Still need to fish plate the inside but run out of time..

Re: Normy71
Are you going to brace the frame where you shortened it. Thats how mine was done, but there is no plate welded in for strength..

Re: Normy71
Time to jump around a bit I will leave the frame until I get to the steel store!
I welded up the gas line holes in the cab. A washer and a bolt worked perfect for this I stuck the bolt just flush with the washer welded it then had a handle to hold it in place welded the washer to the cab then cut off the bolt with a cut off wheel. Then on to the passenger rocker (which I should have done first like everyone suggests).. Lots of rust and dirt... and the weld cutter helps a lot along with a BFH!!

Re: Normy71
Yes I will fish plate the inside of the cut and weld it all.
A must for frame work, don't just rely on a weld alone.

Tony!
I purchased most of my repair sheet metal from Scotts super trucks in Penhold Ab. Not sure what the price was?
