A while ago, I had this stupid idea I could heat the new shop with an air-tight wood stove. 36' x 36' x 13' ceilings.

So, when I finally smartened up, here's what I went with.

Natural gas-fired radiant tube heater - 60,000 BTUs
20 feet long with a 90 degree elbow at the half-way point.
Whisper quiet.

The next challenge is to get vapour barrier, drywall (gyprock) and insulation up there so I'm not heating the great outdoors through the roof vents. It's a long way up there.

Dang, thats a nice set up. Do you plan on insulating? That would help a ton Im sure.

A friend of mine has that same set up in his shop,he says the more stuff you have in your shop the better it works.Also once you set your heat temp leave it alone as it takes awhile to heat every thing back up! Nice shop- rent a sheet rock lift,don't count on friends like I did.

I just put one in my garage as well,just needed a 30000 btu unit for my little 20x22 but it's been great so far!My garage is insulated and boarded,but I'm taping,mudding,sanding and painting right now.....yea it sucks

I bought one, but it only lifts to 11 feet. That will work for the walls and the lower perimeter ceilings. We came up with a plan for the high ceiling.

We're going to place the drywall lift on an open car trailer to get the extra height required.

if you can, rent a electric scissor lift for high work. time and labor and a safety to think about.

You should be able to put an extension on the sheetrock lift lift. nothing more than a piece of pipe with a reducer on one end.

Nice heater- glad to see it's not Modine ( we've had nothing but problems with the 4 Modine units we have at work)
