Re: 5.3 Guys need some help on engine /trans mounts

Buy these

Motor Perches with mounts ( tell them you dont want the motor mounts, just the perches):
http://www.performanceonline.com/sto...cat=455&page=1

Trans Crossmember:
http://www.classicperform.com/Store/...uck/CP9427.htm

LS Engine adapt plates and car style motor mounts:
http://www.classicperform.com/Store/...cks/CPLS1K.htm

There are other companies that have these and other mounts, but this is what I have found to be the most reasonable. Also I would call Sanderson Headers, or if you want to go with F-body or maybe stock manifolds, go with the motor mount/perches from ECE. More expensive but works well from what others have said.

Have you got the harness and PCM figured out? Nelson Performance is the one to call, IMO.

Good luck.

Re: 5.3 Guys need some help on engine /trans mounts

I used the motor mounts and perches from POL and then made my own adapter plate. It was pretty easy, just drill some holes and tap a few more.

I modified my tranny crossmember, but that was mainly for exhaust clearance.

Re: 5.3 Guys need some help on engine /trans mounts

Thanks guys !
Do these POL engine mounts limit me to stock fan or do I still have room for electric fan?
Thanks
Clyde65 what does NP charge to re-config a harness/PCM?

Re: 5.3 Guys need some help on engine /trans mounts

The mounts allow you to move the engine front or back two frame mounting holes, so, if it is in the front, the trans mount bolts right up pretty much, if it is to the rear two, then you have more that enought room to put a dual electric fan setup there. on the front holes, it needs to be skinny on the fans, look at Classic Trucks.com, they did an install on a 72, not sure what fan they used.

Not sure, they have new harnesses and I am pretty sure they will configure your old one. None of them are cheap, but you do get what you pay for with Nelson Performance, very nice folks. If you look at LS1Truck.com, ask them and they will send you to the instructions on how to do it yourself. From what I hear it isnt all that difficult. I sent my harness and PCM to Wait4me performance. It cost less that $400 for programing and harness reconfig, however make sure you tell them what you need prior, I didnt really know and now I have stuff I dont need. I also havent fired my LS up yet, hopefully in a few weeks, I only have last minute wiring and bolt-ins to do.

Re: 5.3 Guys need some help on engine /trans mounts

I'm using dual electric fans from an LS1 camaro, they fit with no problems.

I also reworked my own harness and reflashed my ECM myself (using HPtuner)

Re: 5.3 Guys need some help on engine /trans mounts

I used the engine mounts and trans crossmember kit from performance online. Both fit really good with no problems. I got some plates made up at a fab shop. It would of almost cheaper to buy them for what they charged me to make them..
I made and rerouted my own harness and will be tuning with EFI Live.

Re: 5.3 Guys need some help on engine /trans mounts

Back to this never got around to ordering these mounts but I was thinking
I have the factory 5.3 engine mounts still on the engine that came out of a 2007 truck is there anyway to make these work?
What would I use to bolt these to the frame of my 71?
Has any one tried this?
Thanks

Re: 5.3 Guys need some help on engine /trans mounts

I'm not sure if it was on LS1tech or LS1 truck or linked to hotrodlane or S&P but I have seen 1 swap that used the factory mounts but it took some fabrication. It is just easier to use the adapter plates with factory mounts on a 2WD. I am doing a 4WD which has its own unique issues. There are a couple of places you can get adapter plates that give you a few sets of holes so you have options.

Re: 5.3 Guys need some help on engine /trans mounts

Thanks
I'm thinking of going with the Performance online kit but have read some things about the stock manifold on the pass side not working?but if all I have to do is notch the frame a little not a big deal.
I guess I need to make or purchase some adapter plates also for this to work but If I go this way I will post with pictures how it turns out!
This is the set from POL

Re: 5.3 Guys need some help on engine /trans mounts

I have truck manifolds and I am going to see hoe they fit and if/how much triiming would be needed. I also have a set of 02 F body (camaro/trans am) manifolds that are supposed to fit better. I have also heard that Trail Blazer SS manifolds hug the block a little better, then there are the doug Thorley headers?

These exhaust manifolds are not cast like ours were (I don't think anyway) and I have seen a post somewhere that someone cut the flange of the truck manifolds (which is the part that seems to hit) and have a smaller flange welded on. There are options for you. I am waiting for my transfer case to be powder coated and then I will install my TC and transmission. I will set me engine in place and go from there. Either my crossmember will work or I will have to completely fabricate something. The exhaust manifolds will fit or I will have to modify them or get something else and so on.

Good luck sir!

Re: 5.3 Guys need some help on engine /trans mounts

Try this Lokar
PT#ACA-1800 billet adjustable column arm kit,
which works w/4L60E - 4L65E - 4L70E & 4L80E
transmissions.
And check out this site http://www.hotrodlane.cc/PDFFILES/mr...ls%20truck.pdf

Thanks Thealien!
Might have do some measuring and see if I can get something like that figured out?
I could always spend money that I save on mounts on something else.

He has helped me out on a few questions. I would definately join all the LS sites and PM him about what was involved. I am sure he would help you out.

The only reason I have the information I have is reading all these sites and asking questions just like you are. Everyone has been really eager to help. There has been a thing or two that nobody had answers to but I have to figure some things out for myself

I have seen your post before but when you read so many you forget who's done what.
did you do anything with the steam line I have been reading about?
On your mounts you just added a adapter plate to bolt on you stock 71 motor mounts and that was all?
I will have a bunch more questions if your interested in helping a guy out.

There are a few options on the steam vent. Some block it off which I don't recomend. Some have installed a fitting in the water pump to accept it. You can have a port for it added to your radiator. You can add a surge tank with a port for it. You can
