Talking Driving around spotting old chevys...

Just curious how many 67-72 trucks, burbs and blazers you know of that live within short driving distance of you guys? I drove around 1 hour and saw 6 that looked to be driveable. Should have took the old camera......

Re: Driving around spotting old chevys...

It's wild how soome of you see so many. Down here in Southeast Texas, you rarely see any. Period!! Even now that I have mine, and really looking hard, I bet I've only seen a couple over the last year. I do notice that now that I'm hunting parts, I'm getting phone numbers and leads to parts trucks and others who like our trucks in my area. But I'm still talking like a 100mi radius.

What is the reasoning behind the concentration of these trucks in certain areas. Not neighborhood to neighborhood, but the whole country? Seems like the deep southern states, Alabama/Georgia area and then in the middle eastern states. I'm sure they are everywhere, but just seems like thats where they are at!

Lets just say if I drove around hunting these old trucks, I would still have an empty SD card in the camera for days.

Re: Driving around spotting old chevys...

Good thread BADPURPLE70CHEVY ... In the midwest they are not as plentiful as out west or down south due to rust. If one sees a truck sitting up here it usually only good as a lawn ornament. My truck came fron Tn.

Re: Driving around spotting old chevys...

BadPurple, it is funny you started this thread. I just got done driving from Superior az, to Tucson and I told myself I was gonna count how many trucks I saw on the trip. I saw 5, only two appeared to be driveable. Roughly Half of the trip was on I-10 though. Good Thread.

Re: Driving around spotting old chevys...

I live in a fairly small town and I think there are at least 10 drivers within two miles of me. Could be more.

Our style trucks are everywhere in Western Washington. I drive quite a bit for my job, I see lots of them every day.

Re: Driving around spotting old chevys...

Within 20 minute driving distance of my house there are at least 10 sitting in fields or otherwise and probably 10-15 more that are driveable or are resored. Very coomon to see the maround our neck of the woods.

Re: Driving around spotting old chevys...

Off the top of my head, I can think of about 32 with in a 25 mile radius of the house, not counting mine. Some are just sitting or total rust buckets but quite a few of them still on the road.

I see them quite often around my area. As a matter of fact about a block from my house there's a guy doing a roofing job for a neighbor with a real nice 69 red and white LWB.

Re: Driving around spotting old chevys...

I can understand up north, way north, the rust theory. And, I understand how out west the dry climate keeps them in good condition. I know its very humid down here in SE Texas, but it seems like it wouldn't be much different from any of the southern states and all the way through TN and KY. Seems like they would all be rust buckets.

Is the primary reason that these locations have the trucks because of the weather or is it because of the culture? I might be to close to Houston where everyone thinks their vehicle has to be less than 5 years old. Honestly, I'm about 50mi from H-town, and I'm thinking thats partly it.

Re: Driving around spotting old chevys...

Im just down the road from KrazyKevin and i have a different prospective . I have 3 in my small neighborhood that are drivers . One 3/4 ton cheyenne super that just disappeared after 5 years in the same spot . one GMC lwb off I-10 . I just bought an almost rust free west texas truck less than 4 miles from the house that had sat out in the open in the middle of town for 3 years . They are around you just have to look . Found a SWB made into a trailer , trying to get ahold of the owner now . I'll snap some pics when im running around tommorow .
