radio antenna

I've sprung a leak and it looks to be coming in from the antenna mount. now the antenna that is there probably shouldnt be, and I'm looking at most of the major suppliers to get another. hopefully one that will fit. the LMC book scares me because it describes their antenna as a universal mount. I think thats my problem already. the orange truck and car shop antenna dont look bad. and ecklers looks like theirs is..I dont know I cant tell. anybody been through this?

Re: radio antenna

Where is the leak and where is the antenna mounted?

Water will enter into the cowl vent and if your antenna is missing like mine was, you will get moisture in there.

Now if you have a leak coming inside the cab it may be from somewhere else. Some of the culprits are windshiled seal, rusted out or bad seal in drip channels or rust holes under the cowl vent.

Re: radio antenna

the antenna is mounted on the passenger side fender, in what Im assuming is the factory hole. since the glove box is out, i can tell that the water is seeping through from where the antenna wire is coming. it probably needs sealing as well, but I'm wanting an antenna that will at least be sure and fit correctly, rather than some universal fit that will be questionable.

Re: radio antenna

I dont believe the factory mounted antennas on the passenger fender. Im pretty sure they mounted them on the cowl on the passenger side.

Re: radio antenna

Antennas are factory mounted on the cowl on these trucks.

Here's two pics. The first is my 68 that came without the radio and the second is the 69 that had the radio option. That is the factory mounting location on the passenger side of the cowl.

No experience with them but there are two on this page that claim to be an exact reproduction and just like original.

Re: radio antenna

Forgot to add that I've read posts from others that have used the exact repro antennas and claim they are a good fit. There are other vendors that are members of this site and are great to work with. I always have trouble finding the place where they are listed, but it's in here somewhere. You can call them or email them also.

Re: radio antenna

I would contact a board vendor.. Tim Christian, pickupman, classic heartbeat etc... They are also truck owners and won't do you wrong... some of those shops don't know crap BTW... There is a small rubber grommet that seals that wire, I would remove the cowl and silicone the hole better...
