Re: Custom Models

I didn`t build this.I saved it because I was impressed with the realism.Nothing scratch-built or custom about the truck itself, other than swapped parts. But,look at that thang, wouldya?

At the other end of the spectrum, here`s one who`s realism struck me,also.

Re: Custom Models

Those are cool specialk. Ok, i got my '72 fleetside model today, and i have a few questions. By using the method of drilling new axle holes, could i achieve a drop this low?

Also, where would i find scale 18's and 20's that look like foose legend wheels (with tires)?

Sorry for the huge pics

EDIT...
huff huff, hold on huff huff.....I just got back...huff....from way over at the other side of your post so I could fix it for you.
You have to hit "enter" between text and photos. You also have to between pictures. Each thing needs to be on it`s own line.K

EDIT II...
I guess they`re still dang huge,but it`s better,anyway.

Here's a tutorial on how to do one in a plastic model. The site is a good resource for how-to's on lots of plastic models.I guess most could be applied if doing Die-Cast also.

Re: Custom Models

Ok, I finally found a truly custom model that a friend and I built about 2 years ago.

This car started life as 2 kits. An MPC Blackbird Trans Am and a Revell 35th Anniv. Camaro. My friend did the work on the rear of the car while I did the work on the front.

Re: Custom Models

Foosed, if you are a member of that site, take my advice. Do not abuse the I Need This section. I was permanently banned from that site for asking for parts too often. Just figured I would give ya the heads up so you don't end up like me.

Re: Custom Models

Here is the start to my first project. I have only finished one plastic model ever, a 96 Impala SS about 6 or 7 years ago, but I wanted to try it again. I used to build all sorts of metal snap together kinds and then build accessories out of popsicle sticks. This time, I am going to try and build a functional rollback. Here is the cab I just bought on ebay, and a picture of the truck I am modeling it after.

Re: Custom Models

Man this thread brings back memories.... I used to get so far into detail I would make the engines run using the square slot car motors, also fixed up fan belts and pulleys using old car stereo tuner string wheels and some rubber bands, and made all lights work using the small flat leds.

I took a section out of each side of a 1/24 scale Revelle 1976 chevy grill and sectioned it to fit in the AMT Ertl 1984 GMC front clip, I was just very careful to cut strait and true to section it cutting from the back side with a Zona razor saw and a mytre box to not damage the chrome. if you look closely you'll see the seam lines about where the trim lines on the 1:1 are in the 70's vintage

Re: Custom Models

I dug up my old kit and started working on it. I had to sand down all the old paint and start all over again. I wanted to paint it to match my truck. No I just gotta see if I can find the rest of the pieces in storage.
