73 c30 body, old style?

I think i posted the first one in the wrong place, sorry.

Anyway, is it possible a 1973 C30 could have the old style body? A buddy called me from the junk yard, says there is a april 73 c30 up there, old body style, i couldn't believe it, but could it be possible, he swears it looks like my 72.

THanks

Re: 73 c30 body, old style?

From my understanding, it could be possible because production of the year before always run into the next year a bit.

Someone else on here will correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: 73 c30 body, old style?

No, it is not possible. Every year GM would make vehicles from July or August, to July or August. I haven't went over this in awhile so I can't remember what month it is. If a truck was a 71', it would be built from July-August 70' to July-August 71', If it was a 72', it was built from July-August 71' to July-August 72'. So to answer your question, no it is not possible to see a 73' with a 72' body that is original. The new body style would have started to be made in July-August 72' ahead of 73', so it would not be a 73' with a 72' body. Trevor

Some genius government employee might have processed the title work as a 73 though.

Re: 73 c30 body, old style?

It was a 67, the sticker did say april 73, looks like someone had changed it. It was pretty picked over, the fenders were ok, dented, little bit of rust, but not worth getting in my option.

Question Re: 73 c30 body, old style?

you could have a 1973 truck and be the old style.heres how;if chevrolet ran behind retooling the plant for the next year model run, they would sell it as "new" and label it a 1973.in gov liquidation a while back, there was a coast guard suburban for sale and was a 20 series truck.but the ad said 1973 truck and it was a 1972.after talking to a gmc productation man who lived around the block from me ,he said he remembered back in the day when gmc was retooling, they sold the goverment a whole lot of suburbans that were 1972's but gmc called them 1973's to finish out there contract with them.chevy also did this with the monte ss in 1987 but carried the car one more year and called it a 1988 by changing the mso to a 1988 car.best way to check;look at the vins and see if you see a bulid date.that tells all.

Re: 73 c30 body, old style?

^ Well, that didn`t happen in`73.That was a whole new style and they didn`t snooze on having it ready for it`s debut.Matter of fact, they were sitting waiting and there were promotions, like the Highlander to push the remaining`72s out to clear the way for the new style. After all who would buy the new style when they could still get the best looking truck modern truck to date?

Re: 73 c30 body, old style?

Some title slips have the year model and date first sold. The dates may differ if the vehicle was a left over, cancelled order or unsold. Its possible to purchase a 72 year model in 73 if it sat on the dealers lot. These is more common on commericial vehicles, with lets say a special body on it, that only appeals to a special segment of buyers.

Re: 73 c30 body, old style?

I`m just saying when the `72 model production stopped, that was the last truck built in this style. All unused parts became replacement parts inventory.States issue titles. Some vehicles never get titled.

Re: 73 c30 body, old style?

I'd say just about anything is possible. I came across a Cheyenne Super truck recently that was a 71 (verified by VIN and SPID) with a 72 Super emblem on the glovebox. It was a 402/400 combo, with a low hump cab, no cargo light, and no dust shields between the front fenders and cab.

Angry Re: 73 c30 body, old style?

every one seems to have amnesia about 1973 trucks!when my grandfather ordered his NEW trucks(2 short bed, fleetsides with 454 ,4spd and two cab-chassis also 454 autos)for his crane service here in new york he had to wait 6months for them and when he got them they were a partial order! The one cab-chassis and both pickups came in late aug.The other cab-chassis came in sept-1973!They were all oredered in feb of 1973.The U S coat guard were sold all there trucks in 1972 and when the order was done a handful(9) of them were marked 1973!!GM always did shi- like this in the day.look at the 1970 camaro-the car came out in the middle of 1970 and the 1969 was held over until the new style came out.The reason the came with new names for old =or new is to sell something. As far as having a product to meet demand is some thing they were lacking. It took us 6 1/2 months to get our trucks and when we got them you could see that gm ran out of parts as they were making them. They(all of our trucks)were supposed to be fleet ordered in a mack truck type of green.Common color in the days for construction trucks and when they got here they were orange. We tore the trucks apart, after having the dealer cut the price of the trucks since we have to paint them.It was that or they (gmc) repaint them and no charge to us which they refuse to do.According to my pops they found that the chassis, motor, tranny and radiator hosses were feb. bulid date but the cab had a bulid date of june'73.In other words.NO PARTS to bulid the bodies.Maybe else where they had trucks but on the east coast(manhatten 1973)no trucks.Plenty of jimmys especially 2wd versions(which no one wanted )but no trucks.
