Unhappy ?71 3/4 ton 4x4 front end not working corretly making loud popping noise and slipping

My 71 3/4 ton 4x4 front end is not working correctly. I was up cutting wood the other day (ice and snow) and backed up a small hill. Heard a loud pop (passanger side) now it kinda does this slipping> pop> engaging slipping> pop> engaging. It will drive for a while then do it again when I stop and start. Seems to pull to one side a little and steer funny when not working. I already changed out the Warn locker on the passanger side it did not help. Checked the locker on the drivers side it seems fine. Any clues? HELP?

sound to me like internal problems i would pull to cover and look for any broken gears. do you check the axle joint?

Joints appear to be good and intact. They are only a year old. Everything else is pretty new also. I will probably pull the cover when the snow lets up and see what I can see. If anyone else has had this problem let me know. Seems to go fine until one wheel starts slipping.

If the axle joints are good, it can really only be the spider gears in the differential or the lock-out hubs.

possibly chipped a tooth on a spider gear or axle shaft? did you try turning the driveline with the hubs un-locked to see if there is a pop coming from inside the differential? you said you swapped your locking hub and nothing changed?

X2 on what everyone else has already said,
but I would also like to throw in there that you should check you drivshaft for binding in the u-joints. It could be another problem area if pulling the diff cover yeilds no obvious problems.

If you have a 203 transfer case it might be the stretched chain slipping under load. It sounds like the noise is coming from the passenger side.

NP 205. The noise sounds like front passanger but I could be wrong. It only does it once or twice then it works OK until I stop. Then it will do it again. Does this help any?
