what motor is this?

A friend of mine bought a 68 gmc and they told him it was a 350 motor. Can anyone tell by the number we got off the back today? It has GM3978010 stamped there.

Re: what motor is this?

I am guessing the number is 3970010. If so, it is a 350 from 69-79. Pass car, truck, corvette. 2 or 4 bolt...

Re: what motor is this?

There is a number stamped on the block located at the front of the passenger side cylinder head. There is a pad infront of the cylinder head on the block . That number stamped there will tell everthing there is for the original intention of that engine.
