I'm running one on my truck but it is just lowered about an inch. When I do decide to lower it more I'm not sure that it will work without dragging on everything.

I run one, as do quite a few others. They are a stock piece. I know that I have one of the lowest static drop trucks on here. It rubs and scrapes all the time but I don't worry. Heck my control arms scrape too but I don't let that get to me either.

it's a wind deflector...I think it's supposed to draw air up and across the radiator or something like that...it's supposed to help with cooling I think...

I can't get a picture to work but that is what I was thinking. I still have mine and it's bagged but it does rub on speed bumps at ride hieght which is pretty low for me.

i want one like i use to have, it was a 3 piece one but they dont make them anymore i wonder if i can get one of these to fit, also i have a problem rubbing my sway bar mounts, does any one know where they sell lowered mounts.

It helped mileage a bit on my '87. Though it was sitting up a tad higher than stock. Maybe if people are getting bad mileage it may be something in how the airflow is changed because the trucks so low. I dunno. Sometimes an Inch will make a stupid amount of difference in things.

In Theory, it should help your mileage, because you are pushing the air around the truck instead of under it where the air will hit all of the stuff under the truck like the sway bar, cross members, engine, drive shaft, exhaust, axle. All of that stuff will cause turbulence and more drag due to larger amounts of surface area then the small deflector. I also think they add a finished look to the truck. I have a NOS gm one for my truck that will go on after it is repainted.

I have one on mine. The truck is lowered 2.5" in the front. I didn't notice a change in gas mileage. It never scrapes on anything except when I park too close to an unusually tall curb.

You are absolutely correct.

Incidently, I think there were four different part numbers available originally: 2wd (short one) and 4wd (long one), for both with and without front tow hooks.

thats still adding more box where air gets traped (like the hole truck is a box anyways) so by adding an extra 4ins to the hole truck,i see will have more drag then hitting the rest of the stuff underneath the truck

Nope. Not true.

Frontal area is established by how high the truck is (like if it were to cast a shadow on a wall), not by what is hanging underneath.

Just lowering the ride height on a vehicle results in an improvement in coefficient of drag, due to a reduction in frontal area, without making any other changes. Just today we were talking about it on a GM vehicle, and it was 1 mm lower is worth .001 unit improvement in drag. (To give you an idea of the significance of that, we'd kill for .003 counts!).

Cleaning up the front of the vehicle, like with the airdam, forces the air out and around the vehicle, same as adding a smooth belly pan, thereby reducing drag.

It's fundamental knowledge for those who work in wind tunnels with vehicle aerodynamics (like NASCAR racers!).
