Can I use the bellhousing and fly wheel for 292 to 350?

I finally yanked the 292 out and just need to know if the bellhousing will bolt right up to the 350 I will be using along with the fly wheel? Also, there was an 11" clutch in this beast. Is that was I should be using again with the 350 and my sm465 tranny?

Bell housing will work, flywheel is 292 specific, and should stay with engine when you sell it.

Bitter/sweet answer Jeff but thanks nonetheless. Bellhousing is mint and so is the flywheel. Not one tooth on the flywheel is chipped or anything. Also, the starter that was with this 292, will that work on a 350 or is that also 292 specific?

Re: Can I use the bellhousing and fly wheel for 292 to 350?

Its been a while since I had my 292 separated from the tranny, but IIRC, the difference in the flywheel is some kind of alignment pin where it bolts to the crank. The diameter and # of teeth are the same so your starter should interchange.

If I'm wrong, someone will correct me.

FYI, my 292 was a 72 year engine, but I doubt year makes a difference here.

Re: Can I use the bellhousing and fly wheel for 292 to 350?

The 292 had larger bolt holes that mount it to the flywheel, except for the early models from 63 up to about 66. They had the smaller holes & would fit the 350 although they may be heavier. An 11 in. clutch will work fine.

Actully I can just use the flywheel thats currently on the 350 i have. Just because it currently has an automatic tranny the flywheel should still be the same right?

No, an auto uses a flexplate to which the torque converter bolts. Big difference.

Here's a pic of the flywheel. Holes to big or can I use it? Also, will the linkage for the clutch be the same from the 292 to the 350?

Re: Can I use the bellhousing and fly wheel for 292 to 350?

If you leave the engine in the same place the linkage will work (with a small amount of work). If I remember correctly you will need to modify the ball stud for the clutch linkage (flip it over I think) for it to bolt to the v8. The flywheel most likely wont work, just get the one for a 250 six or a v8, on the 292 the flywheel to crank shaft bolts are bigger, one size only but it will mess things up.

Re: Can I use the bellhousing and fly wheel for 292 to 350?

I'll have to take a pic of the linkage and make sure what I have is normal for this application. I guess it's a good idea to keep the flywheel with the 292 anyway.

Also, I can use the same clutch fork that was on this tranny right?
