rocker replacement help - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Does anyone have a couple pics of how to weld in the inner and outer rocker? I have both pieces and want to get them on the truck this weekend.

Oh, and does the rocker have to go on before the new cab corner?

dubie, I'm no expert but here is how I plan to do mine. I will put the doors back on the cab and get the new rocker in place and tacked where it should go base on the body line with the door. I will then install the rocker. My inner rocker is part of the new floor pans.

I want to make sure the doors fit and have good seams all around before hacking and welding anymore on the floor or corners.

Yah the inner part should be attached to the floor pan, then its just a matter of checking alignment of the door, make sure that the bottom spacing between the rocker and door is even across the door bottom.

The rockers were originally attached with spot welds so you might want to drill some holes in the rocker then plug weld them to attach the rocker to the body.

IMO the cab corner should done before the rocker

Must be alot of us doing rockers lately! I just replied to another post and Im doing a pair myself.

I prefer to do the rockers first. Tack in place, put door back on and make sure gap is good at bottom, then fully weld in. From there, you can do the cab corner or any floor repairs.

I would say that the cab and fenders should be on the frame when doing rockers because the cab will have a nice gap around the door but then the fender could have a super nasty gap up front. It happned to me and it sucks having to do stuff Twice !

Be sure to tack weld some braces in place before starting..........helps to keep the alignment in place.....

I didn't have any problems with the cab spreading or alignment problems. If your trucks are anything like the ones here in Pa, you've probably been driving around with hardly any rocker left for years anyway.

I woudn't recommend doing any repairs like this unless the cab is on the frame and with fenders on.
