What year did emissions come standard?
I am looking at a '85 C20 and K30 and was wondering if it will have all the emissions stuff on it. What year did GM start adding all the stuff? Thanks!

Re: What year did emissions come standard?
certain stuff came out out at different times, my 85 k10 pretty much had every emission device imaginable on it
catalytic converter AIR pump Evap emissions control EGR Heat riser yours being a k30 with a higher GVW means it was in a different tier for emissions. Does your truck still have the sticker on the core support? Last edited by 95 S_Trucker; 01-28-2010 at 11:47 PM. |

It varies greatly, My 85 C20 suburban had a 350 with 2 smog pumps duel exhaust with no catalytic converters.

Re: What year did emissions come standard?
I'm not sure when 1/2 tons got cats, 75 or 76 I think. as for 3/4 tons, they didn't get cats, etc until 79. up to 78 everything with a GVW over 6001lbs. was emissions exempt. 79 and later, you had to have a GVW of 8501lbs to be exempt. Basically that leaves dually's and their 10000lbs GVW exempt but I don't know when that ended.

Re: What year did emissions come standard?
73 is when they put their foot in the dorr with vacc sensors.
74 (my truck) has the air pump /w/ the exhaust pick up off of the collectors, not the header-tubes. so accuracy, 74 was official. |

Re: What year did emissions come standard?
I know for a fact my '77 3/4 ton, 6300 gvw had no cats factory, just the PCV system. No vapor canister, no A.I.R. pump, nothing. My uncle bought it new and it was titled as the weight of 4483. (commercial pickup truck).

Re: What year did emissions come standard?
Dunno about 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks, but 1-ton trucks didn't get cats until 87. The 1/2 and probably 3/4 had cats long before then.
