Just Picked-up a 1967 SWB

I sold both my 72 1/2 ton and 71 Cheyenne SWB when I re-enlisted last year. I've been without a truck ever since. I just picked this 67 SWB up. I'll apologize in advance for the crappy pics, they are from the Craigslist ad.

The truck will clean-up nicely, and is pretty solid, aside from some rust in the doors and fenders. The truck drives good, and should run pretty good once I replace some burned plug wires. Once I take care of the wires, and a fluid swap front to rear, I'm going to start replacing the rusted doors and fenders.

I found a set of rust free 1971 doors I will probably pick-up, and I have a lead on a nice pair of 68 fenders with the marker lights welded-up. Will the 67 door panels fit the 71 doors?

Anyway, I'm excited to finally be driving another 67-72 Chevy!

Thanks phlebmaster. The various graphics, and blue circles are decals. Removing them will clean the truck up a lot. The bed looks good without the tool box. Also, the front pic shows a passenger car seat. The owner installed a 69 seat prior to me picking it up. The trucks looks much better with a truck seat in it.

I can't wait to start wrenching on it.

Re: Just Picked-up a 1967 SWB

the door panel's will work on 67 to 72 door's , nice project , you know it's funny how bad stuff like that tool box and thing's like that make a truck look , I mean its fine if you work out of it but after removing that tool box AND PROBABLY THOSE 80's MIRRORS ,
and I SUSPECT THE BACK BUMPER WILL LOOK BETTER WITH A 67 to 72 sport bumper !!!

!!!!!!! IT WILL LOOK A LOT BETTER !!!

you hit two home run's with it already that I can see
#1 it's got the small back glass !
#2 it's a short bed

post some more pic's once you start working on it ,,,,

Re: Just Picked-up a 1967 SWB

19673ontree, thanks for the info on the doors. I love the 67-72 trucks. This is my first early one. I've had a 69 Blazer and a 72 C20, 72 C10 long bed and 71 short bed.

I'll eventually replace the rear bumper, but it's down the list a ways. I really do like the sport bumpers. I'll go back to a stock door mirror when I replace the door. However, my priorities are to get it squared away and reliable.

My plans this weekend are: replace the cracked windshield, remove all the decals, do plugs and wires, and time-permitting, change oil and trans fluid and filter. If we get next weekend off, I will flush the cooling system, replace the thermostat (The truck doesn't heat-up, so it may not even be running one.), and change the gear oil in the rear diff.

The truck already has an HEI, in a later passenger side dipstick block. I'll leave the HEI for now, but eventually replace it with an early points distributor, that has been curved, and install a Pertronix. The engine has an old Weiand single plane and a Carter, that I will replace with a Performer and a Q-Jet as soon as I can find a clean one. I may have my wife send me my Performer, Q-Jet, and a set of magnesium, center-bolt Vette Valve covers I have in the garage. However, if I can find one cheap enough, I'll just grab one locally.

Anyway, those are the short term plans. Long term, who knows. I'd love to upgrade to a LSx engine/trans, but leave the body and interior 100% stock, other than a sumped tank for the EFI under the bed. I'd also like to widen some stock rims and run stock hub caps. My goal would be to have the truck look 100% stock, aside from engine/tans, but be able to knock down 20 MPG, while cruising reliably with the AC on!

Congrats on getting back into the hobby, can't wait to see some new pics of the truck when you bring it home.

Re: Just Picked-up a 1967 SWB

Got the windshield done today, but not much else. I put about 90 miles on the truck today driving around Radcliff, and out to Louisville and back. Considering we got about 6" snow last night, I thought the truck did pretty good. So far so good. I'm looking forward to seeing how it will do after I tune it. Aside from that, there are a few Bubba repairs I will have to sort out,

Re: Just Picked-up a 1967 SWB

has a newer front bumper and 68 fenders... I guess they just used any parts the could find... nice buy though if it's fairly solid...

I was told the truck was raced years ago. It was probably cobbled back together before being raced. The tailgate looks to be from a GMC... however, I don't think it's too bad, given the price.

I am attending the ARBOLC (Armor Officer Basic Leadership Course). I'm slated to be a Cav officer with the 101st out of Ft Cambell. Cavalry falls under the armor branch. If all goes well, I'll attend the recon course, once this one is finished, before deploying later this Summer.

Re: Just Picked-up a 1967 SWB

Big Mike, I just checked out your project money pit... I'm on page 3 so far.

I think my truck was originally the same color, because of my dash pad color, and the paint on the fire wall. I kinda like it actually.
