Question cutting bed crossmember for blazer tank?

I have a 69 c10 short bed fleetside. I bought a blazer tank kit to relocate form inside cab. I had it mounted in frame and thought all was good untill... I tried to sit my bed on and the crossmember left to right underneath the bed sits on the gas tank. What have you guys been doing in this case. The way im lookin at it, either I can knotch the frame (which im not fond of)where the filler port on the tank is and lower the tank about 2 inches, or I could knotch the crossmember in the bed about 2 inches to clear the top of the tank. Any info/ pics will be appreciated.

I think you're supposed to remove the cross member. Do a search on blazer tank installs and see if there is anything that can help you with this.

Yep, remove it. grind down the rivets and pop them out. If you are talking about the crossmember that runs between the frame rails and is the rear most crossmember, and is originally installed from the factory and is a little crooked.

Re: cutting bed crossmember for blazer tank?

Im talking about the cross sill on the bed, not the chassis.

Re: cutting bed crossmember for blazer tank?

Ya, I had to notch the crossmember under the bed on mine for the filler neck. I went with a aluminum 20 gal. tank from Summit. It was about 2" deep and about 6" wide. Didn't get into the part that mounts to the bed floor, though. I then ran the filler tube over to the stake pocket and did a custom filler like John Fabris designed. I just used a die grinder with cutoff wheel to do the notching.

Notch the bed cross member. I used a sawzall and a grinder with cut off wheel.

Re: cutting bed crossmember for blazer tank?

Ya, I didn't pay close enough attention to the "bed crossmember" part.
