Re: Decode this SPID

The bumpers, etc tell us it's a sport. The red stripe telss us the year, but I don't have my books in front of me. I'm guessing a 78.

Re: Decode this SPID

1978 was the first year for the Street Coupe in GMC ;I am guessing that they used the chevy codes for the sport option ....is the serial #/build date early in the year.
The red stripe code is also interesting....the blue units I have seen had white/blue stripe kit...the white/red stripes were on the red trucks.

Re: Decode this SPID

The vin decodes shows that its a GMC yet Z77 option shows as "Chevy Sport Equipment" so it's a bit confusing. Here's what I got from it..

T-GMC
K-4wd
L-350 V8
1-1/2 ton
4- P/U
8- 80
Z- Fremont

Sport related-
25A- Red Sport Stripe
V43 - Painted Rear Step Bumper
Z77- Chevy Sport Equipment

I don't have a lot of GMC info, so here's the best I can offer. This is a 79 Chevy.

Re: Decode this SPID

My dad had a white '77 Sport. It was like the powder blue truck, just frost white. It didn't have the bumper strips, did have chrome step bumper and had no wheel arch trim, though it had hub caps. It had the base scottsdale interior

Also as far as the painted step bumper, my 78 C20 had that, but it was just painted a light silver.

Re: Decode this SPID

The painted (body color)bumpers with impact strips were first installed on the 1978 z77 street coupe/chevy sport packages;they were unique to these trucks;they were standard front and rear on fleetsides but you could order the rear step bumper as an option. All the Sport models 1976-81 and gmc street coupe 78-81 were scottsdale/sierra grande models.

Re: Decode this SPID

I like the look of the picture you posted 80Sport.
I havent bought it . I am considering it but would probably be better off letting someone else buy it . I am hung on the fact that it is a 4x4. Were they more rare than the 2 wheel drive versions ?

Sure Jeff,
Look here . http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT

If it were closer or at least had factory air I would probably own it . The truck would make an awesome restoration since I think it is pretty rare .

Re: Decode this SPID

Looks like a pretty nice truck. Would be interesting to find out exactly how rare it is.

On a side note, and a little off topic, but Frank how's the yellow truck coming?

Basically I havent touched my trucks in almost two months except driving the black truck to one get together . Thats the main reason I hope this truck goes to a good home . My youngest son wants this one to come to our home but at age 10 , there will be others for him.
