Throttle cable removal question
I need to remove the throttle cable from a 71 to use on another truck. I have been tring to see how to take it out with out damaging the cable.
It looks like there is a plastic nut on the firewall side. I tried to turn it but when it did not come lose easily I stoped before I ruined it. It looks like you need to disconect the cable from the pedal, then losen this nut, then I guess maybe you depress some ears on the square end inside the truck and remove it out the firewall side? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Last edited by cox71; 01-31-2010 at 07:12 PM. |

Re: Throttle cable removal question
Disconnect from the carb. Then push the two ears on that square plastic fitting and it will push into the cab.

Re: Throttle cable removal question
I can't see how that would work, there is a round plastic nut on the outside, next to the firewall, also a big rubber fitting where it mounts behind the carb, that will not fit through the hole in the firewall if you try to pull the cable in threw the cab.

Re: Throttle cable removal question
The 2 ears are inside the cab i believe. You will have to push it from inside the cab out.
On the gas pedal, there is a small plastic bushing the cable goes through. You will need to push that out of the pedal assembly also. Good luck. Eric

Re: Throttle cable removal question
I just did this too but I believe you are right. It is pretty easy to figure out if you look at it!

Yeah, I guess it is pretty easy if you just look at it!!
Lucky I didn't try to take it out the way you told me, I would have ruined it for sure. Thanks anyway |
