I am having a problem with my tank Relocation

The bed cross member that I had to notch to make my bed sit over the tank is now blocking my filler on my tank. What do I do to over come this I am at my whitts end with this mod and I thought it was going to be fairly simple. LOL Guess thats what I get for thinking. I rewired my whole truck yesterday in about 20 min switched fuse blocks and all and didnt have these problems. PLEASE HELP after two years of owning it and a ton of work I am ready to drive it already.

Re: I am having a problem with my tank Relocation

Looks like you're trying to do this on your SWB? The Blazer tank won't work with a SWB, only the LWB trucks. I discovered this the same way you did unfortunately.

I will add that I went with a Suburban tank and it fit very well and I got about 4 more gal. capacity too. I think any Suburban tank from 73-87 should work.

67-72 Blazer tank works with Short beds, 73+ doesn't from what I understand.

For my filler neck I slid the tank as far back as possible then notched the rear of the bed cross member far enough that I could get the filler hose on.

Re: I am having a problem with my tank Relocation

I was putting in a new wood flr so moved the crossmember closer to the rear so it missd the tank completely and I didn't have to notch the cross member.

I also have a Blazer tank in my 72 SWB. It was a tight fit, but very do-able. Here is a link to some pics I posted in Rob's thread showing what I used for a filler (your next problem ) http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=380571&page=2

If you are using a Blazer filler also, you need 1 3/8" filler hose (which is difficult and expensive to find) I found the hose at a marine store.

Re: I am having a problem with my tank Relocation

Nope got my filler covered here is what I did for that. I cut a hole in that guy and put a boat filler in it.
I would also like to say that I was successful today with my hose mounting issues. What I did was notch that cross member as close to where the bolt goes in as possible. Then I got one of those bars you use to jack up cheap jacks with and used it to bend the tank filler nipple towards the rear of the truck. Then put my hose on eased the bed back down and there you go. I am glad to have that one behind me. Now I am just a few steps away from going down the road.

Re: I am having a problem with my tank Relocation

I went to the junk yard and got the cross members (2 of them, front and back) out of a blzer or burb.I put them where I needed them to go and cut what ever cross pieces out that were in the way.I welded the (new) cross members in place and brought the fill hole up thru the steel floor.
