67-71 doors vs 72 doors

What is the difference on the 72 door? I have been told it is just the small hole below the vent window? Is this true?

Also, the holes that are used to attach the door panels are different. 67-71 used screws along the bottom of the door panel, and '72s used plastic clips.

Re: 67-71 doors vs 72 doors

Thanks guys.

If I have a good rust free 72 door for my 71 is it worth the effort to make it fit?

If you were anywhere near Texas I would gladly trade you a nice rust free 71 door for that 72 door! Although, a good "rust free" anything is always a good place to start.

Re: 67-71 doors vs 72 doors

The only real problem you'll run into is that the regulator crank sticks out farther on the 72 than on the 71. If you swap the regulators you shouldn't have a problem.

Re: 67-71 doors vs 72 doors

Summary:
67-68 doors are the same except for the additional hole inside the door just below the vent window and the following other details.
-window regulators are slightly different
-door panels are different
-door panel mounting holes are different

this was just to recap everything in case anything is missing. Thanks to everyone for replying. I was planning on taking my regulator out and using it in the 72 door. Looks like all I will have to do is weld up the hole below the vent window.

Why would you want to do that? That hole is for a reinforcement screw that sandwiches the door tighter to the vent window frame, making it less prone to wind noise.

Yes, leave the holes. The 72 doors would be an upgrade!

Re: 67-71 doors vs 72 doors

Anyone know if the interior door panels from a 72 C-10 will fit onto the 67 door? And if not, are the modifications significant?

Re: 67-71 doors vs 72 doors

I have 72 doors on my 71 they came from a dump truck! the hole is no biggie for me. I installed nutserts @ the bottom of the doors/ installed the trim/ 71 door panels/ arm rest . I went to Pamona swap meet & after walking every isle I found this guy that had two doors. I needed only the d/s door but he would only sell the pair. I asked how much? gotta get $75 for both! deal, put em in my 65 nova's trunk and off we went. (no dents/ no rust) cheers, Pat

I have them on my 67 with no mods. The handles go on pretty hard and I had to try a couple of different ones on the drivers side before I got one to lock on. I also used them on the Red/White '71 4x4.
