Re: 72 blazer production number?

I think most models were built on the same line - so it might be a production number from the plant it was built in - not the actual number of the blazer per se. Are you pulling this production number from the VIN?

I sure somebody else will chime in with more info...

Re: 72 blazer production number?

Agree - the serial number portion of the VIN is a sequence number specific to the particular assembly plant (said differently, there is no correlation of the serial number/VIN between plants).

Where did you see the statistic that 44266 vehicles were built? (I'm asking to learn, since I don't have any build info prior to the '73 model year).

Production numbers for these trucks can be found in the FAQ section of the forum.

Here is a direct link:

Re: 72 blazer production number?

I believe that they started with number 10000 - so that would make it the 35,942th vehicle made at that plant.

The big thing is - that some 72's were rebadged as 1973 vehicles.

You have to remember that the UAW had a big strike in 1972 and production stopped for a couple of months and by the time production resumed, it was already the 1973 production year - August / September 1972..

Many Camaro's and Blazers were throw in the crusher out in the factory parking lot's because they just didn't have the time to put them together.

Re: 72 blazer production number?

I would look at the production number on the front of the engine block and see what the build date was for the original engine, if the truck still has the original engine in it. That would also give you some idea where it was assembled.

After all - you wouldn't build the engine in Towanda NY and assemble the chassis in California.
