Re: Whos sportn the air horns?

I have a pair on my truck, under the hood bolted to the core support (engine side). They are feed with a 1/4" line teed off from the tank pressure gauge. Electrical is supplied from the original horn power line. They have been a "blast", especially when a cell phone holding fool is driving half the speed limit or turns in front of me. A good friend of mine may still be in the middle of a side splitting laugh. A female driver with a death grip on her phone never looked, and turned directly in front of me, I hit the horns and her phone flew into the back seat as she reacted to the noise. Would have been a great you-tube video.

I'll try and get some pictures tomorrow.

Re: Whos sportn the air horns?

I got a set too. Currently under the hood mounted to the firewall above the heater blower motor.Air tank & compressor mounted on the drivers side outer frame between the front/rear wheels. Got an air gauge from an old C60 in the lower left corner of my cluster.
I also installed a floor mounted dimmer switch to flip between the factory horns and the air horns.

Re: Whos sportn the air horns?

I have two air horns under the cab and I also have train horns mounted under the bed. The air horns came off a 18 wheeler where a buddy woks so they were free. The train horns cost $90 on ebay. I have a button on the dash for each and both have 3/8 lines.
I thought the air horns were fun until I installed the train horns. HAHAHA!

Re: Whos sportn the air horns?

I have a set of real train horns mounted under the bed in my truck where the spare tire was, i have a 9 gallon tank with 2 viair 380s running 3/8 line. the horn has 3 valves on it so it has a blast of air coming out of it. I paid 700 bucks just for the horn, its a nathan air chimr k3la. so much fun scaring the **** out of people.

Re: Whos sportn the air horns?

those are cool looking horns and the price looks even better, what kind of sound do they have? semi truck sounding, or do they sound like a freight train? I would love to see some pics of how you mounted them, they look the right size that you can mount them in a number of places.

They have a tone i would describe as medium to high pitched. The best example I can think of is a full size Cadillac horn, but much much louder.

Where did you find the horns so cheap. I have never seen the nathan horn for less than $1000. Awesome horns though.

Re: Whos sportn the air horns?

I'm interested to see if anyone has a somewhat hidden location for them. I have a nice set (not $1000 nice, but nice ) that I'm going to run off of my air ride air tank. Has a 3/8" valve on it so it's not the loudest, but it's WAAAAY loud enough and sounds like a train from others of this model I've heard.

Re: Whos sportn the air horns?

My air horns are mounted on the outside of the frame on each side under the cab and don't hit the ground when dropped. My train horns are to bug to hide but they are behind the cab under the bed and can be seen in the opening in the bed floor(hope to hide them when I sheet metal the floor. Both sets of horns run off my air ride tank with 3/8 valves. Here is the only picture I have of my train horns, not really of the horns but the bed, they are on the right just under the battery box next to the air tank. I'll try to get some pictures of the air and train horns tomorrow.

Re: Whos sportn the air horns?

My little bro used to work for International, and scored me a nice truck horn. I stuck it behind my front bumper and ran an electric valve to my factory horn wire. I've noticed that if I honk with low air pressure, the valve sticks open for about 10 seconds.. DOH! Anyone know how to fix this short of plumbing a manual valve?

Re: Whos sportn the air horns?

yeah its a nathan k3la like what they use on the amtrak around here. I got it on fleabay a few years back and it was worth every penny.
Mr. pops the electric valve shouldnt stick no matter what pressure you have, it should just click, maybe the coil in the valve is getting stuck try loosening the bolt on the top of the valve and see if that helps. You can replace the valve with a regular 12v air valve, just don't go too any bigger then 3/8" it will be really high pitched.
