Those with ECE 2" drop in front (Pics added)
How much did you cut off the bump stops?
I finally let mine down off the jack stands after rebuilding the front end. I noticed tonight it is sitting on the bump stops. I put a tape measure to it and it is sitting 2.25" lower than when I started but I think it would go lower if it wasn't for the bump stops. It is bottomed out on both sides. It was rebuilt with all Moog parts and 2" drop springs. I also installed new upper and lower rubber bump stops and KYB shocks. All parts are from ECE. How I measured it. Close up of before measurement. After measurement. Bump stop bottomed out. (Before anyone says it, I know I need to seat the lower ball joint seal. LOL.)

Re: Those with ECE 2" drop in front
Not much help I think, but maybe you can answer something for me, how much shorter were the drop springs than the stock when you pulled them out? I just dropped mine tonight with what was called a 2" drop spring, but I'm not on my bump stops, rather, 2" from them.

Re: Those with ECE 2" drop in front
I did not compare the springs before I installed them. I did notice they were shorter. I couldn't even guess how much. I will get pics shortly.

Re: Those with ECE 2" drop in front
Guy's I can't give you a picture of mine, because we actually removed the bumpstops all together. I'm running a 4.5" drop (2.5" spindle w/ 2" spring).
Are you running the same wheel/tire combo that you started with? Any pics of your setup Trip? Not to hi-jack the thread it would be nice to have a comparison since you both used a 2" drop spring.

Yah, not meaning to hijack at all, I just thought since we did the same thing and got different results, one of us might have a problem and we might be able to help each other...

you should check to see if the shocks don't bottom out before the bump stops contact, should be OK I cut 1 1/4 coils of my stock springs and they hit like yours so I removed the rubber stops . I had 3/4" to the metal stops , but the stok shocks bottomed out before the bump stops hit.

Re: Those with ECE 2" drop in front
Same wheel and tire combo before and after the drop on mine.
Hey Trip, Are your springs from ECE? What motor does your truck have? Would you mind measuring from the center of the hub to the wheel opening? I have about 16 3/8 inches. I used a framing square to make sure I was square with the ground and then put my tape measure parallel to the square and measured down. You don't have to be as exact I just want to know if it is even in the ball park. TIA, Matt

Here is mine with ECE 2" front spring drop. 4" in back. I'm not on the bump stops.

18" center of the hub to the fender.
After looking at WNC Mountain's pic, I wonder if my front is right and my back are too low... And I am not sure if they are ECE, sorry, I bought them off a board member. Trip Last edited by Trip59; 03-06-2010 at 03:31 PM. |

Talked to Stan @ ECE. I think my springs may be wrong.

Re: Those with ECE 2" drop in front
Wrong amount of drop. They are 3" or 4" drop instead of 2".

Re: Those with ECE 2" drop in front
that would explain the difference. Please, if you haven't, feel free to send my photos of the stance and the stop and the measurement from mine if you need to for comparison.

Re: Those with ECE 2" drop in front
I removed the bump stop and the shock from the drivers side. The truck settled in at about the same height. Maybe 1/8" lower. I checked and the shocks will only have about 1" of travel before bottoming out. I like the stance but I feel like it is too much drop for a spring alone. I would love to have it this low but I would fell a lot better if it was done with a 2" spring and 2.5" spindle.
The other issue is going to be the rear. I ordered 2/3 springs and KYB shocks to match. If the rear are correct it is going to have a hell of a rake. If they match the front, I'm going to need shock reloacators and shorter shocks if I decide to keep the springs. Guess I'll call ECE on Monday and see what the next step is. I'm sure they will take care of me. Thanks for all the help. I'll update as soon as I have it resolved. Matt

Re: Those with ECE 2" drop in front
Sorry, I think I forgot, 307, so mine's a small block too, not a significant weight difference than a 350 (unless you left that and added a BB)

Re: Those with ECE 2" drop in front
Still a small block in mine as well. I was thinking if you had BB springs it might explain why yours was high in the front. I'm pretty sure I just have the wrong springs.

Re: Those with ECE 2" drop in front
Wrong springs? If there's anything worse than doing this job once, it's doing it twice. What a PITA. I guess the moral of the story is to check part numbers before you start. You have my kind of luck. Keep us posted.

Re: Those with ECE 2" drop in front
A little update. Stan @ ECE is sending a call tag for me to ship the springs back to the manufacturer. They are going to check the rate on them. I have the springs out and when comparing them to the old springs it seems pretty obvious they are more than a 2" drop.
How it sits with the springs in. It a lot more rake than it looks like in the pic. Old and new springs side by side. old spring measurement New spring measurement

Re: Those with ECE 2" drop in front
No part number on the actual springs. The box stated 2" drop small block truck. Still a bit of a pain but at least I have time and a place to do it so it isn't too bad.
