TH400 Tailshaft Housing

I need to replace the tail housing gasket on my TH400. Has anyone done this? Does the tailhousing cover any gears or anything else that may come apart?

Re: TH400 Tailshaft Housing

Covers the speedo gears, just take out the worm gear out the side and pull it apart. The round gear shouldnt come off unless you try to pry it off. Should have the clip in it to keep it on the shaft.

Re: TH400 Tailshaft Housing

I changed mine out already once just support the transmission because once you pull off the Tailshaft Housing to replace the gasket the tranny falls a couple of inches because thats what supports the tranny. Then make sure you have something to catch all the oil that is going to fall out. their is some gears in there but they will not be affected by the change of the gasket so you can't mess anything up, nothing will fall out only oil.. Ok heres a picture of mine when I had it uncoverd it might be upside down though but you can still see inside. The only thing that might be different in yours is the shaft mine is messed up. Hope this helps.Pablo
