As some of you may or may not know, I just found out a couple of weeks ago that I am going to be a first time dad ( at age 37!!!)

I have a few project trucks and thought I would see if I could make some baby money for mama. Also, she wants me to trade in my daily driver 06 Cobalt SS coupe for a family car- no friggin mini van, though,08 or 09 HHR SS Turbo. Obviously, she did not have twist my arm. We need some down payment money.

I have the following:

1972 GMC Super Custom 3/4 ton 4x4 fleetside factory A/C cab
Missing original 350/ TH350 when I bought it a year or so ago, the NP205 case and adapter are still there. It is a Central Texas truck.

Cab- No rust around windows, will probably need rockers, they almost always do. The worst part is the driver side floor has a hole rusted through around 1' long 2'-3" wide. Cab supports and corners are good. The radiator support is rusted out under the battery, but could be patched. The bed sides are good, but the floor is rusted out. Tailgate is pretty well gone-rusted out at the bottom.

I have the following parts:
Running 350 out of another truck. "Supposedly" recently rebuilt.

TH350 out of a 72 4x4 blazer, needs rebuild

I have all of the A/C, PS and alt. brackets and pulleys for a factory short water pump set up.

Good 4 row radiator and 4x4 fan shroud

Pair of rust free, straight OEM GMC front fenders

Replacement fleetside bed

Two GMC tailgates, one with a dent where someone backed into a pole. the other with bondo above the latch, condition unknown.

Straight GMC grille, grille bar and headlight bezels, chrome is fair, no peeling or rust

OEM chrome sport rear bumper, straight, chrome good

Extra pair of rust free inner fenders

Van tilt column not installed

Good windshield for install after paint

Painted steel front bumper needs a little straightening

Basically I have all the hard parts to redo the truck. It would need to be torn down, cleaned and painted and new rubber installed.

What do you guys think? WIW?

I would say if I seen it around here, it would probably go for around $1600 - $2300. With it being a 3/4 ton that helps out for one, and you have the parts for most of the rebuild. The thing that hurts right now is the economy, plus the fact that there will be quite a bit of money in paint, interior, drivetrain rebuild etc. to factor in when buying. I hope I am close to what you had in mind. I understand you have a lot of time and money in finding the parts, but it's a bad time for project vehicles in the market, or atleast around the Kansas area. I have seen quite a few 4x4's come out in these past couple of months. Trevor

I'd pay between 2-3k for the truck and all it's parts.

Well, it's tough not to judge a book by it's cover when you are throwing money at it. That being said, $1,000 absolute tops, it looks ugly. As a truck guy, I understand that there is A LOT more value there, but man, it's ugly right now. If it was mine, and I was looking for down payment money, I would do one of two things:
1) part that sucker out and walk away with two or three times the money.
2) Spend one weekend and put all those extra parts on the truck. A multi-colored truck with very solid parts has WAY more value to me than a rust bucket with some parts laying in the bed that I have to put on.

The good thing about option 2 is that if you don't sell it, you are that much further ahead on your project.

I know it sucks but I gotta agree, 1000 TOPS! It would be cool though but just not a lot of value in a truck in pieces.

The problem is my time, like everyone's +money. i have plenty of other things to keep me busy. My opinion is if I were to take the time to hang all of the good parts, I am going to do it right by cleaning up and painting everything as I go.

I was thinking it would be worth around $2k considering all of the parts I have for it.

I am not so sure of the parting out thing. Does everyone realize how much hassle it is to answer all of the questions, have half the people who say they are coming not show up, etc, etc.? I parted the 71 Cheyenne K10 LWB and all I have been able to sell is the steering column, rolling chassis and later model TH400 and NP205. I still have all of the rest of the truck. (This stuff is on the parts board and local Craigslist. Everything else is too big and oo much of a hassle to ship
Maybe my point of view ids different from everyone else's, but when I go look at a truck that is thrown together with a bunch of different parts, all I see is more work to be done to tearit apart, as opposed to the pats being loose and ready to work with...

My thinking is I will hang onto it until I get time to pull the front clip, clean and paint the frame in the underhood area, have the TH350 rebuilt, regasket and paint the 350 and start back with it. I would then pull the bed, clean and paint the rear frame area, clean and paint the bottom of the good bed and install it. The problem is, I would obviously have more $$$ in it then, and it would not even have paint. All this work to just get it running would have to be worth something.

I guess I could always do like the guys that tic me off and shoot the whole thing in primer again and put the good grill on. That would be a day's job and make it "look" good. I personally have never bought a vhicle in primer. There is too much hiding under there. I have gotten to where I don't even look at something for sale in primer. I know i have probably missed out on a few, but how many nightmares have I saved myself from?

Not that it makes much difference, but I forgot to add that I also have an extra GMC radiator support that is in better shape, but not perfect (area under battery not rusted out, but area around passenger side mount is rusted some.and a grille guard that came off a GMC 3/4 ton 4x4 firetruck .

It's not going to cost you anything but a little time to list it for sale. I am not sure what you are looking to get, but I can tell my $1,000 got under your skin a little. Put the price you want on it and see what happens. If you have someone coming, lay all the nice parts out beside the truck before they get there. You never know when the perfect buyer is looking.
That GMC will be an AWESOME truck when done. Great color combo. 3/4 ton 4x4. And, nice options to boot.

FYI: I sold the truck over a year ago for $1800 minus the replacement bed, tail gates, radiator, windshield and accessory brackets.
