2004 Suburban Gages Freaking

Original battery (I know - but it's my kid's rig).

Tach - sets at 1,000 RPM - then starts working for a while - then back.

Oil pressure - 15 psi at 40mph, then 80 psi at idle.

I'm assuming replacing the battery won't hurt anything - and hopefully might help? (I'm a 65' C-10 owner) Is there anything special about changing the battery out, other than not turning the air on within the first minute or so (which I've heard is a 'no-no')?

Thanks for any info.

Mac.

there was a tsb about this. The stepper motors that control the gauges quit working causing the gauges to act erratically. this is a known issue and within certain limits is covered under warranty.

This guy:

http://myworld.ebay.com/digital_dash_solutions/

You can buy a completely rebuilt cluster with all of your information programmed into it.
Then send your defective one back to him.

Check with your local dealer and see if it might still fall under the extended warranty that was set up for this particular issue.

Replaced the battery Saturday morning - everything but gauges working perfectly. Battery was the original. Taking the rig to the dealer - thanks for the info.

Re: 2004 Suburban Gages Freaking

If you don't fall under the extended warr/service bulliten, you may need to be resuscitated when the dealer gives you the price.

Here is the details of the extended warr:

http://www.gmspeedometerrecall.com/
http://www.gmspeedometerrecall.com/s...age-adjustment

and here is the website where I found this:

http://www.instrumentclusters.com/

Also Dorman is now selling remanufacturered clusters:

https://www.dormanproducts.com/cgi-b...rid=0x001b4ab3

You will probably have to go through a retailer to get these, but Oreilly Auto, Autozone, NAPA all sell Dorman products.
