Difference between 67 through 71 and 1972 doors?

I want to replace the door control and window regulator in the drivers door of my 72 GMC, the drivers door is not original, when I look in parts catalogs I see listed door controls and window regulators for 67 through 71 doors and seperate parts for 1972 doors. I am not sure what year door was put on my drivers side. What is the difference and how can I tell what year door I have? I cant see any difference between the doors. Do any of you know the difference between the door controls and regulator in 1972 doors? I dont want to have to send parts back if I order the wrong ones.
Thanks! Aaron

The 67-71 trucks used flat door panels with shorter stubs on the door control and window winder.

72 used sculpted door panels that required longer stubs on them.

Usually, a 72 door has a phillips head screw inside, under the wing window, clearly visible. The screw is lacking on 67-71 doors.

The 72 door will have a dimple (filled with a screw) under the vent window... They have longer shafts on the crank and dorr handle due to the door panels being thicker... That extra screw helps hold the inside and outside door from spreading too...

72 doors also have holes drilled for the plastic clips for the door panels. The 67-72 doors have either welded nuts for the bottom 4 screws or welded nuts. Not to mention the 4 holes drilled for the upper door panel trim. WES

Re: Difference between 67 through 71 and 1972 doors?

Thank You all! I appreciate the help. I assume the 67/71 door control and window regulator have the same mounting holes as the 72 so I should be perfectly fine ordering the 72 parts no matter what year door I have.
Thanks again everyone! Aaron

The mounting holes may be the same... But the stubs for the door control and window regulator are longer for the 72. The 67-71 stubs won't stick out far enough through the 1972 door panel to get the retainer clips in.

Gary

EDIT: reread your post. I see you're buying the 1972 parts...

If you have 72 door panels then you are safe with buying the 72 guts... if that's what you mean...
