What do you think of this 5.3 engine turnkey price

It's tax return time, which should partially help me procure a powerplant for my truck. I'm really leaning towards a 5.3L vs a Year One 350 crate.

For those who have installed, how is the following price in comparison to your solution and your time? I'm not pulling the trigger, just curious on your opinions.

Its a lot a money, but if it saves a great amount of time and hassle....

Try Schram auto, that is where I got mine. I got mine for 2200.00 + shiPping to Canada. It had under 50miles on it and was a complete package. They have a ebay store.

That's cool, since they are about 10 miles from where I live.

Also - we (GM) have an "asset recovery" program with Schram. That means if we buy a new current model vehicle and use it as a "base vehicle" to build a prototype from, we sell all the stuff we took off to Schrams.

For example, back in the 2008 model year we bought some H2's to build into 2011 prototypes. We took the bodies off for our use and sold the complete rolling chassis to Schram which they, in turn, could do whatever they wanted with. That would be a great way to pick up a 383 HP 6.2L powertrain (BTW, Escalade has the same hardware but is rated at 403 HP).

Incidently - as you might guess, we canceled the 2011 H2 program and never built those prototypes .

Frank - you've piqued my interest; subscribing to see what kind of prices are out there.

Can you give me a link to the eBay store? I can't seem to locate them.

Re: What do you think of this 5.3 engine turnkey price

$6400 seems like an aweful lot of money compared to what I paid for my 5.3L and 4L60E. Granted mine have ~70k miles, and my wiring was more involved, but that's still a lot more money. I have <$2000 in mine to get to the same goal.

Re: What do you think of this 5.3 engine turnkey price

I agree, that is ALOT of money for what you are getting b/c once you get that you still have to hook up the fuel line(s), DS, what about the PCM, etc.

I have $2k in my 6.0/4l80 with 16k miles on it.

I could do the whole swap for less than $6400, unless you just want to spend that much on the swap....

It really is a lot of money. Direct from the GM performance Parts catalog $3900.00 for a NEW motor with full warranty.
Kit Includes:
LS327 Crate Engine
Carbureted intake Manifold
Coil Assembly
Spark Plugs and Wires
All required Gaskets and Bolts

Items Needed to Complete Engine:
Carburetor--650 CFM 4150 $358.99
Air Cleaner Assembly
MSD 24X Ignition Module (P/N 6010) Scoggin-Dickey, 310.00
FEAD Kit - 19155067 FEAD Scoggin-Dickey, $825.85
harmonic dampener 12601402 Pace Performance 129.95
coolant pump 89018052 Pace Performance 219.95

GM Performance Parts Accessory Drive Kit 19155067 is the only accessory drive that works with the produciton iron block. Also in order for the GM Performance Aparts accessory drive to work these two parts will also need t be changed: to the harmonic dampener 12601402 and coolant pump 89018052.

That's $5744.74 for an all new engine and we know there's other ways than going down to your Chevy parts counter for your stuff....

I'm still looking around. And still very torn between crate-carbed and late model FI. Thanks for the feedback. It seemed like alot, good to here from others though.

FI all the way, no sence of going the LS route without the FI, IMO
