Re: Chevy vs gmc
For '73 -87, they were exactly the same except for emblems/trim.
They went right down the same assembly line. K

Re: Chevy vs gmc
Back in the late 70s and early 80s when Fox body Mustangs and Mercury Capri's shared the same body, they came down the same line too. My vocational school machine shop class toured the factory and actually saw it happening.

Re: Chevy vs gmc
People like variety, so companies give it to them. It's no fun if there is only one choice. A double badged is kinda like choosing both. lol

Re: Chevy vs gmc
All of the parts that I removed from my 84 GMC was bolted right onto my son's 86 Chevy. I went with aftermarket goodies and updated his in the process with the leftovers.

Re: Chevy vs gmc
Actually when you think about it you see way more Chevys out there than GMCs. GMCs were the Cadillacs of trucks and they were also constructed with heavier built suspensions and drivetrains on some models (not all) for farm and industrial use (HD). They cost more and were produced at a slower rates because of this. My idea on the difference is that since were they were assembled slower (in number) they were probably put together a little more secure. IDK I'm probably full of it but hey, sounded good didn't it! Lol....

Re: Chevy vs gmc
chevy's with lockwashers hahahahaha.... i was told from a dealer that the gmc was considered better due to the fact it carried the gm name and that the chevy was the low line truck that gm produced.... i looked at them and told them they were full of crap.... then i got the look from the wife hahahahahahaha
