Question 1960 Apache question??

I was wondering what you guys think of these trucks?? I am debating on getting rid of it but not sure. Is there a market for these things? I really like the Square bodies better and just can't get motivated to keep this truck. It is just not that interesting to me.

I was thinking of putting the body on a newer 4x4 chassis(73-87). I think it would look cool. Just thinking of things that make me want to keep this truck.

Any ideas fellas???

Thanks in advance.

60-61's are becoming more popular and depending on the condition are worth keeping. If you have a chance post a picture of it. What doesn't it do for you? If it's a hood issue, there's lot's of guys looking for one and maybe you could trade for a 62-66 version instead.

I am more of a Square body guy. I have a 1979 Dually 4X4 that I am restoring and I like the looks of the 60s trucks its just I like the Square bodies more.

(you weren't thinking of turning this into a FS or WIW thread, right?)

Nope, just ideas to dress up something I'm not real interested in. Maybe putting the body on a newer chassis would be cool. Anyone done this here?

Re: 1960 Apache question??

I would speculate most of the people on the 60-66 side have a passion for this particular body style. There are quite a few threads on swapping suspensions, or complete bodies to a newer chassis, plus stock and modified 4x4 models. But the common goal is improving the chassis to make a better 60-66.

If you’re disinterested in this style and the 73-87 is your passion, I’d suggest you’d be money and labor ahead to simply buy what you prefer. It’s a lot of effort swapping a body only to end up with something you may or may not care about.

Re: 1960 Apache question??

You asked "is there a market for these things", not a great one, yes if it is a 100 pt. restoration, but then you would probably still lose money on it.
unrestored they sell for the most part at $250, runners sell at $500-750, my local craigslist has a few for $2500+ that have been listed and relisted for months
and still haven't sold.
of course this is my local area, I see a little better prices listed from board members in tx, and ca, but for the most part I would not buy one of these in hopes of turning a profit of any sort.
I think we here on the board have a skewed view of this body style , because we like it so much, but I would look at something else to build to sell for profit.

Its a stock 61 4x4 frame but I put spring hangers from a 76 chevy 4x4. That way I can use any 73-87 4x4 lift kit. Plus it handles much better! Drivetrain wise, its got a 283, 700r4/np 208 transfer case. I have 3.08 gears and they suck! I need some 3.73, but thats a project for another day. I'm running 285/75/16 inch tires.
