Cowl hood's do you guys like em ?
I am thinking of getting one for my 67 I like the way the look on the 67-68 truck but not the 69-72's. I am kinda wondering how well it will fit in 5 years down the road or if it will be like the roof mounted sun visors and running boards covered with blue light scene

I bought one for my 67 gmc from gmcpaul and i love it. good fit and very well braced. much stronger than the original hood. The price has even dropped a little since then i think.

Cowl induction hoods have been around for along time, Not necessarily on our trucks but on alot of other great cars and I dont think that they are likely to out of style any time soon.

Whats old is new, whats new is old. Modifications are like styles or fads. Build what you want for today and don't worry about tomorrow, unless you plan on selling. And if you're planning on selling, no sense in making changes cause you won't recoup your investment.
Only one constant with these trucks, the original lines and details as designed by GM won't go out of style - after all, that's what attracted you in the first place!

I think that the look really neat. Kinda wondering if anyone totally did not like the way they look. that's why I posted this thread.
It's good to hear that they fit really nice too. I was kinda worried about that . Who makes the hood you got ?

Since you asked my opinion....now way do I like them. Haven't seen one yet that I liked on our year trucks. Again, my opinion only.

they're not for me, but out of the 2 I like them better on the 67-68 vintage hoods. Seems like with the 69-72's the front slope on the hood clashes with the angle of the cowl

I'm not really fond of cowl induction hood scoops on our trucks either. One because of the lines, they seem to clash, and two because every other truck has a cowl induction hood on it. I decided to be different. I am putting scoop the hood of my 69, but, it will actually be a wide forward facing scoop off of an old Mopar Six-Pack. I figure it should look pretty sweet with the rake and stance of the truck. As soon as I get it mounted and fabbed up, I'll post some pics of it.

Sweet is how they look. I realy like the them if you open the hood and have a Blower or injection system sittin on the block. It is up to how you feel however and no one else. joker.

I also think they look way better on the 67-68 hoods than on the 69-up, but I like them either way. I do think that some are too tall, but Mr. Goodwrench's is just the right height.

On these trucks I could go either way. The part that grabs my attention though is wondering what kind of performance increase I might get. Do you think it would make much of a difference with that cold, fresh air rushing down into your air cleaner? I know GM had something going on the Chevelles.

"Functional" is in the list of things to do once I get the truck on the road if I decide to go the cowl route.

I agree the 67-68 slanted fronts look better with the cowls. Get a Goodmark hood - I have one on my camaro. It's just like the original stamping. They're like $379

There's so much room under the hood on these trucks it makes them seem silly to me. It'd be a different story if you were running a tunnel ram or a blower.

I have a 3 1/2 in cowl on my truck now and I don't really like it. I want to go with a metal 2 inch cowl. 3 1/2 inch is a little too much for me and I don't want to make that much of a statement on the street.

I love my truck, but I don't like the hood on it.

I love the looks of the Goodmark Cowl hoods. Anything over the 2" hood height is too much though. I'll also admit that the 67-68 hood looks better than the 69-72 one. I've decided to leave the stock hood on my '71 Cheyenne Super though. I'm trying to do a stock type resto and it (cowl hood) would look out of place i'm afraid. I have another '71 also that I'm going to go the mild custom route on when I ever get around to restoring it. It will definitely have a cowl on it.
