Is my 70 flatbed lowered already?

I have been looking around at other trucks like mine on here and notice that mine seems to be different, with the cutouts on the wood, and it seems to sit lower than the rest?

Can anybody tell from this pic if mine might be lower that stock?

I took it when I went to give the first payment on it, Its not in my possession yet, so I cant measure or look at anything.

I think it's just an optical illusion caused by the home made flatbed sitting right down on the frame. john

Re: Is my 70 flatbed lowered already?

Ok thanks, I wasn't sure because of the flat bed having the notches in it. Do the flat beds normally sit higher?

I cant wait to get this thing so I can look over everything and see whats all on it and what not.

I suspect your truck started out with a pickup box. The PO or someone took it off and built the flatbed.

Re: Is my 70 flatbed lowered already?

Now I'm debating keeping the flat bed or doing up a bed? Would I beable to use the wood thats on there now for the floor, or would I have to ditch it all together and get a new floor, either wood or metal?

The wood is in great shape, so I might just keep it..

Hard to say from the pic you posted, but surely most of it could be used with some careful cutting and fitting.

Re: Is my 70 flatbed lowered already?

LONGBEDS ARE NOT THAT HARD TO COME BY, & AREN'T THAT EXPENSIVE. IT WOULD ALMOST DOUBLE THE RESALE VALUE OF YOUR OLD TRUCK ALSO. A VERY WORTHWILE UPGRADE, IF FOR NO OTHER REASON. MY ADVICE WOULD BE TO SCRAP THE EXISTING HOME MADE FLATBED AFTER YOU FIND A DECENT STEEL FLOOR LWB BED. UNLESS OF COARSE YOU REALLY LIKE IT. & YES MOST FLAT BEDS ARE ABOUT 6" ABOVE THE REAR WHEELS. Re: Is my 70 flatbed lowered already?

It looks like who ever did that flatbed put it down at normal pickup box bed height rather than what we usually view as normal flatbed height which usually gives about 4/6 inches of clearance between the top of the tires and the bottom of the bed. Your choice on what to do. You might make up some diamond plate wheel arches to cover the tires and put some metal around the edges of the bed and maybe matching side racks and a headache rack between those leg/hand burners. If those are hooked up and you have small kids I can almost guarantee that they will be gone in the first few weeks you have the truck. I still remember an acquaintance loosing his very hot girlfriend over her leg getting a serious burn on the side pipe on his then new Corvette back in the 60's. Those are cool in a redneck kind of way but it won't take long for someone to get burned on them and it will probably be you. The truck has a lot of potential though and with a bit of detailing it will look pretty sharp

Re: Is my 70 flatbed lowered already?

First thing I have to do it get it running correctly, some basic maintanece and suspension.

Then ditch the stacks, look for a bed and fix some body work. I dont have a whole bunch of money for this, so it will have to be on a tight budget build.
