It seems like there are not very many 67-72 GMC's out there compared tot he Chevy's..... why? Is it just me?

I am looking for one and swear i can never find any.

GMC production was 1/5 to 1/6 of Chevy. If you do not live in an area where there is/was a GMC dealership you won't see many. I know of a couple of areas in my region where you see more GMC's than Chevys simply because they have well established GMC dealerships.

somebody told me that the diference between a chev and a gmc
is that gmc didnt use lock washers.

so the gmc's must have fallen a part by now thats why you dont
see as many..lol

It's kinda funny around where I live, I have been paying more attention for 67-72's ever since I have gotten my GMC. What I have noticed is: there are more GMC's than Chevies...like a 3:1 ratio. I don't know if there was a GMC dealership around here or what. But...most of the GMC's I see are parked. All the Chevies I have seen but one were on the road. I have yet to see another 4x4, or a Blazer or Suburban from those years. As a matter of fact, everything I have seen is a lwb, 1/2 ton pickup. Hmm.

OT, but there is someone I discovered in my hometown with a really cherry looking '68 Chevy. I waved at him when I drove past him one time, it was funny cuz we both turned around to look at each other's trucks and both almost went off the road.

Does anyone have "Chevrolet & GMC Light Truck Owners Bible?" Read pages 1-16 "Evolution of Chevrolet and GMC Light Trucks." It goes into great detail how it started and ended and using Pontiac and so on..... Books kinda expensive: I paid 30.00 but it has soooooooooo much information. I'll try to scan some pages when I can within the next few days.

...except the catch would be that most are dually farm trucks that have been parked in the field for possibly 20 years plus. Not much call for a restored Dually let alone a GMC. (Poor GMC's) I think most of the Chevy's that may have been around where I live are probably being restored or hiding in garages right now.

There are a lot of GMC's in Texas.
Give me some sort of an idea of what you are looking for and I see what I can come up with.
It would also help if you could supply a price range also.
The shortbeds and 1/2 tons are harder to find but there are a lot of the 3/4 ton longbeds.

Another idea: check eBay. It's where I bought my truck...some people have had trouble on there, but my truck was from Minnesota, and the seller was a pretty decent guy. My dad and I took the Greyhound there, drove my truck home, 0 hitches (even got good gas mileage). I noticed the alarming trend that GMC's go for cheaper than comparable Chevies on eBay. IMO GMC's are better looking, except maybe 67-68 Chevies. Since they are all pretty much the same (i.e. drivetrain, sheetmetal, etc.) I don't understand why better deals could be had on GMC's...it would seem that the reverse would be true, that GMC's would be worth more since they are rarer. But hey, use that to your advantage... and have fun.

Well thanks for all the help. I really appreciate it. I am looking for a 67-72 GMC 4x4 (short or long bed truck, or Jimmy). For a price range I was hoping to find something in the $1000- $3000 range. I don't know if that is a reasonable range but its all I have to work with right now.

I have a 1972 GMC Sierra. Just took it to the shop yesterday. Doing a frame off on it. I have had it for 4 years and I have notice that the 1/2 tons are more rare. I see lots of 3/4 tons. The guy down the street has a 1971 GMC 1/2 ton with what he says is an original 427 in it could this be true.

No. The only BB available in '71 (on light trucks at least) was the 402.
