Jeep coil springs? what to get? should I?

I have heard that stock Jeep coil springs from Cherokee's and or TJ's will work for a lowered spring for our trucks ( not sure front and/or back only?) can someone enlighten me here?

I see on CL there are some 4WD places selling them cheaper than I could buy new ones from a performance place, so please help

Thanks guys!

They work on the back. I put some on my 64. I forgot what years work though. Ride nice. Got mine off ebay. Post 479 on my build.

I did not get them, however from what I have read here on the forum, it should drop about 3.5-4". new shocks would be a smart idea too.

Re: Jeep coil springs? what to get? should I?

TJ springs will give you about 1" more drop than XJ Springs.
ZJ rear springs will give you 3" more drop than XJ springs.
How much drop does a XJ spring give? I dunno.

TJ=97-06 Wrangler
XJ=84-01 Cherokee
ZJ=93-98 Grand Cherokee

This is just what I have read while discussing lowering a Cherokee.

Re: Jeep coil springs? what to get? should I?

I have TJ rear coils in my truck. Found a guy on CL selling off his stock suspension from his TJ jeep since he put a lift kit on it. I got them for $20!
How much are you looking to drop your truck?

Re: Jeep coil springs? what to get? should I?

1 disadvantage: You cant haul much at all cause they are so thin!

You can score a used set on here for around 70$ish In the long run your probably better off, but instant cheap satisfaction jeep springs are great

Re: Jeep coil springs? what to get? should I?

this is not quite what you asked.. but i have nearly new 3" drop springs for the rear. I bought them for $100 a few years back and changed to air ride in the back over the summer because i got a deal on bags i couldnt give up. $50 + shipping and you can have them. they have never been drove on.. but were on the truck for about two years (im slow in building my truck between work and school lol)

Re: Jeep coil springs? what to get? should I?

im not sure of the brand.. i would have to check when i get home... which wont be untill another week or sooo cause im at college and all. I got the air ride from airbagit.com. im not sure how the ride is on my truck cause its still not complete. but the reason i put airbags on it was my dad was buying some for his 38' street rod and it was buy 2 get 2 free. he only needed two so i got the other two for price of shipping which i think was around $30. i know on his car its lightyears better then the s10 leaf springs he had... but it was a whole suspension change to a 3 link so thats prolly why haha

Re: Jeep coil springs? what to get? should I?

What all is needed for an airbag set up, I dont want the compressor and all that but wouldnt mind looking into bags and hoses with a valv to fill/empty when desired. I dont really tow anything with my truck but might down the road maybe.

Re: Jeep coil springs? what to get? should I?

i know they sell brackets for our trucks on ebay. but i just bought cheap generic ones from airbagit and spaced it out from the frame on the top so there was enough room for the filler hose on the bag to come out. on the bottom my bags had one 1 1/2" stud in the center. i used jsut a circular bracket so the whole bag had support on the bottom. i then extended the stud so it went entirely through the frame. then it can just be tightened on like normal springs. i wish i had some good pictures to show you haha but the ones i have arent the best. there are a few on my build blog in my sig tho... i know i have 2600lb airbags on mine now and i think it may ride a little higher than i like at 30-35 psi (which i hear is the best ride pressure). so i might have to downgrade to a bag with less extension. we will have to wait and see.... and yea im just gonna run mine with out a pump and tank. just fill it up when it needs it like youwere saying

Re: Jeep coil springs? what to get? should I?

I am using the stock rear springs I took out of my WJ in the rear..
The stock fronts were way too soft and it bottomed out in the front, but the rears work great.
I need to get some lower springs for the front, right now I got some air pumped into some air shocks in the rear just to get a slight rake to it with the F150 springs I have in the front.
If I knew the stock height in the rear I could air down the shocks and tell you how much it dropped it. If someone knows the stock height from the top of the axle tube to the bottom of the frame I can measure mine

Re: Jeep coil springs? what to get? should I?

the way mine is set up you basically only need the bags and generic brackets. took about 4 hours to get everything installed. takes a little creativity and fabrication. but they fit right where the stock springs would go.... it just wont go as low as other people who redid there whole suspension to accommodate bags

no, no welder, I have a friend that can weld and has skills/welder, but it is a few miles away and he is self employed, I hate bothering him unless it is quick. I can use these and bolt it all in, where would I need to weld?
