Lightbulb I can't decide what size wheels to get, ideas?

My truck is going to be lowered 4in up front and 6in out back w/ springs. I can't decide which size wheels I like the look of best.. I've seen a few pics around here but most dont have the tire size info so it's hard to know what people are running.

I'm thinking these combos right now.. If you have pics of any of these combos can you please post them and let me know the size of the wheels and tires? thanks!

20's in front and back
22's in back, 20's in front
20's in back, 18's in front

And then, should I go with a 40 or 45 series tire?

Thanks guys!

This truck was @ the @water Get Together. I didn't meet the owner though.
He was running 275/40/20's in front and 295/40/20's in the back.

Here's another one on 20" Coy wheels. Love this truck. It's in the For Sale section.

Re: I can't decide what size wheels to get, ideas?

I had 20's on my 'burb and ran 275/45/20. My p/u is sporting 275/40/18's. You can fit very wide tires in these trucks with the right wheels.

The new Toyota FJ Cruiser has steels that look like those Dodge 20" but 18" and six lug. Think there are also 16 and 17's from their truck.

Re: I can't decide what size wheels to get, ideas?

My humble opinion, i am crazy jealous of where you are in your build. i am working on getting mine to 'runner' status and then plan the stock piling of parts and blowing it apart as you have done. All that said.. wheels

These truck beauty to me lies in their symmetry and and clean straight edges. They took the big fenders and swooping lines of the 50's and tossed them. That said if you do two different size wheels i think it will take away from symmetry and balanced nature of these trucks. All this being said, if you plan on raking the stance with the suspension then by all means put bigger wheels and more meat in the back but if you are going for a static even drop then i say do 20's all the way around. And at that point chrome vs. paint vs black and all the variations of those is just a preference and should pair well with the paint and trim scheme for the body.

again, incredible truck so far. can't wait to see where you take it

Re: I can't decide what size wheels to get, ideas?

@rahatawa: I think you're right.. the more I think about it and look around, the more and more I'm leaning towards doing 20's all the way around..

You know the crazy thing tho? You can get 22's for waay cheaper than 20's! If you look on tirerack.com they are always doing closeouts on NICE 22's for $60-$100 each, regularly $300+! No close outs on 20's tho

Anyhow, thanks for the thoughts! I appreciate it! .. It's a fun project, but there are A LOT of days I just go out in the garage and stare at what I've got and wish I had the money to buy the next piece, and the next, and the next.. It's almost been two years to get to the point I'm at now..

Re: I can't decide what size wheels to get, ideas?

completely understand the frustrations with money. I just keep myself from going crazy by mumbling "long term project, long term project" to myself as i fall asleep at night. I hope to be where you are in two years.

as for the tires and wheels... wheels are a one time purchase (hopefully) but tires are going to have to be replaced. i would put the smart money on what has to be replaced regularly. so if 22"tires are consistently cheaper i would go that route

Hi,

I'm just new here but I really don't like the wheels you chose, sorry bro. That truck deserves a classic looking wheel on radials. Those wheels you chose look like something that belong on a tuner car.

My friend has your same truck and put on Cragar chrome 18s from Summit and they are very sharp.

Good Luck.
