Lower budget racing

I have been looking at options for entry level racing and i think the "factory rubber shootouts " or "Headsup hard tire" classes are a thing of the future . These give the lower HP/ street car guys a shot at having fun . Something along these line for rules . Maybe add a treadwear # minimum of say 400 that must be stamped on the tire . Looking for opinions here not criticism .
Rules:
1. No slicks or Drag Radial/DOT type tires 400 treadwear and above
2. No tubs or mini-tubs
3. No AWD vehicles
4. .5 tenths full tree
5. No progressive controllers or traction control

This class will not be qualified, and all pairings wil be random. Times must be shown during eliminations, but you can run N/T during your time trials. Any motor/power adder/weight combination is allowed.

The payout will be $200 to the winner, $100 to the runner-up. If more than 16 entries, semis will get $50. Entry will be $20 Car & Driver. You do not have to pay regular gate admission if you enter the Shootout. First round will begin at 9pm and rounds will be run approximately every 30 minutes.

Run on instant green just like the street light and maybe a $50 bonus to the first car to run faster than a 7.50 in eliminations.

This would be good IMO. Cheap, decent payouts, and a run what you brung thing. I say go for it:thumbsup:

I am in the Houston area , but im talking to them about several programs . Tech inspectors would keep it a street car thing for the regular friday night crowd .

at my local track, castrol raceway in edmonton alberta, we have the friday night street legal drags. there are a few dragsters and serious racers, but they usual take solo passes just as crowd pleasers. they run off the tree and its just a great way to get out and into the sport. theres a gamblers pool if you want to through money in it, and some guys will chat up and pick a race in the staging lanes, and the track officials are always happy to line you up against your buddy or whatever.

its a cheap $20 to race your car all night, granted you have proper lighting for when the sun sets. ive been racing for the past 4 yrs there and LOVE it.

This sounds like a lot of fun, and hopefully it would stay affordable for a while. Sounds like it would be a "driver's" class. And with a minimum of rules, would be easy to tech. Good luck getting it going!!

LOL.... Sounds like a good idea. In San Diego we have Street Legal. No drag strip close so they do 1/8 mile at the Qualcom (Chargers stadium) parkinglot. Like $20 for the night. I plan on going to spank a few imports soon.

Oh i know, but when im pushing 6lbs per ft/lb and over 500 ft lbs @ 3100rpm's its not a tbi 350. Im sure someone will have a turbo set up. Most imports have the sticker/muffler add ons which have to add 200hp, i mean those stickers are sick.

Well i have serveral ideas for classes and have emailed the big track manager . I am even willing to administer the classes . The tech guys would be able to weed out the drag cars hiding behind classic plates with no inspection . And i don't think you would bring high dollar cars out for $200 .

The second monday of the month could be a stick shift shootout or something like that .

The third could be super sleeper night with a heads up deal kinda along the same lines

The fourth could just be a street legal bracket race .

All these wrapped around street car night ( poor prep ) where people can come and just make passes if they want or slowly work into more organized racing . Just think there needs to be a way to harness the youth and funnel them into a safer environment . These are just thoughts and parts of programs from different tracks around the country ( Ozark raceway comes to mind ) . Any/all input that i get from here will be passed on to the local track manager .

sound like a geat start. here in Medford OR. Champion raceway friday night dot et racing this year we are running points for the year. simple tech just basic safty items. and if you get eliminated you can move over to the test and tune lanes and keep running all for $25

Great info guys . I was even thinking of a performance shop as a sponsor for say a $2000 gift cert. for the points deal . Like say a win =5 tickets in a drawing 4 = runner up and such .

Sounds like a great program. I think your eventually going to have the same issue as NMCA, PSCA, WCHR and every other heads up racing that has came along. The guys with the big budget are going to build purpose built cars that fit the rules, come in and win race after race after race. Especially is you put much $'s into the purse.

Heads up racing is Sooo much more fun than bracket racing. Arizona's Fastest Street Cars has put together a program that appears to be surviving without the spoilers. Might take a look at how there structuring things. I don't have anyting that fits their rules or I'd sure be out there running.

Yea , the easy street class is along the lines of what i was thinking . I even thought about a school id race or under 21 bracket .

I was trying to aim it at the kids . The next generation of , well us . Maybe save a life . Also im getting older and any of the older forum members know i have had a few surguries of recent and this would allow me to kinda still be involved in the sport . Really don't know if it will work out or not .

Yea , sorry awd works on almost any tire and 340 to the ground . Bet that thing has earned its keep if you know what i mean .
